This blocklist is so extensive, it feels like they just need the phone number of the one person they’re trying to contact

I wonder how many times Tesseract users saw me post a high resolution image of a guillotine before I was added to the list

    hint: it’s not open source.

(the list is behind a wget call, and not editable; the proj lead is a butthurt douche who wouldn’t merge a pr anyway…)

Isn’t it in a gziped file within the repo tho? policy.dat?

i thought the code pulled from a hardcoded url and used that? maybe the url is a raw hit in the repo, “same same” but … i don’t reckon he was too open to merges regardless.

Well there’s no real benefit to compressing and encoding the file in the repo, it’s a JSON config. Other than obfuscation, of course.

[Tesseract is a] Lemmy Frontend / UI that instances can use instead of the default. They had a secret shadow ban / block list for keyword, users, communities, instances that were not accessible via the admin UI and only pulled down at runtime so you could not see them in the source code before using it and could not modify it because no one knew about it.

As far as I can tell it’s a base64 encoded gziped json file in the repo.

At this point we should specify which list. Because, you know, that other list. Or do we just call that “in the files”?
