I’m from San Antonio and didn’t even consider that this story could be fake. It certainly sounds like us.
How did they catch her with this immaculate disguise?
free her
What’s the charge? Cooking a meal? A succulent BBQ meal?
Second time I’ve seen this referenced on lemmy recently and I’m not upset
🎵 Let’s get down to business
To defeat the buns 🍔 🎵
🎵 You’re unsuited for
The taste of war 🎵
So give up, go home, make stew.
🎵 How could I teach you to
Bar-be-cuuuuuuuuuue? 🎵
Isn’t this Lemon Lady?
The lemon stealing whore?
No no. Leave your mother out of this.
I’m surprised she isn’t laughing about it lol
Man she has been busy…

Also queen behaviour
Also fake
We hear about men in women’s sports, what about women in men’s sports??
Yes, I know it’s fake…
The sport of BBQ. One of the oldest sports known to man.
Known to woman, you mean.
It’s a very difficult sport to master. If the fire isn’t constantly messed about with it won’t cook right. Obviously the fire in the oven is domesticated and can be left unhassled for the duration.
I am more concerned as to why a woman has to pretend to be a man to cook bbq… what is wrong with this backwards place across the pond?
Well fortunately it didn’t happen so we’re ok. It’s a fairly unbelievable story even by Texas standards.
It still boggles my mind that there are so many people, even here, who uncritically just assumes that these “mugshot + crazy headline” internet posts are real.
It is an entire internet industry, and they are never real, it is basically just a meme format.
Yeah, that is so crazy. You’ll see some random picture with some idiotic story pasted to it. No sources. Two sentences. And people believe what they are seeing and will totally be enranged about the picture.
Here’s how I look at it: You’re free to disagree.
Stand-up comedians make up their stories to make us laugh. We don’t sit in the audience with our arms crossed and say “pfft…that never happened, people. Why are you laughing?” In fact, when listening to a stand-up set, we generally just turn off our disbelief for an hour or two and pretend it actually happened. Why? Because it’s funny. No other reason than that. It’s nice to just laugh at a well-crafted story sometimes and who cares if it’s real or not.
That would be a good comparison if this were a website for funny joke headlines. But having joke headlines like this on a website that aggregates actual news, without actively indicating in any way that it’s a joke, is only helping to erode people’s ability to tell fact from fiction. You and I might be above it, but the vast majority of people sadly aren’t
You’re on a memes board. You’re literally on a comedy channel for joke headlines. If you take memes at face value, you’re failing at media literacy.
I’d argue its incredibly important whether a story is real or not. Suspending disbelief just means assuming everything is real, its not suddenly deciding you don’t care which it is. This is why comedians pretend the stories are real and are incredibly reluctant to specifically name which parts of jokes are made up and which are real.
People don’t like bullshit. Choosing to pretend everything isn’t bullshit, doesnt change that.
Suspending disbelief just means assuming everything is real
No it doesn’t. That’s an insane take.
Having the context and the common sense to know when something is made up or not, and choose when to laugh and when not to, is the same part of the brain that let’s us enjoy movies and sitcoms. Suspension of disbelief isn’t gullibility unless you’re an idiot.
When you walk into a movie theatre, you’re suspending your disbelief. That doesn’t mean you think it’s real.
The idea of choosing when to laugh and when not to laugh sounds insane to me.
At this point we are talking past each other though so we can agree to disagree.
Since Texas was mentioned, it’s reasonable to assume they arrested a trans woman for doing well at a misogynist cooking competition.
Hence the website:
https://theverifiedpost.com/methodology
It seems like a fairly professional content farm. It’s really hard to tell how made up it is without researching each individual story.
…So yeah.
In hindsight, presenting algorithmically fed Tweets in a timeline, prioritized by predicted engagement, maybe isn’t the best way to maintain information hygiene?
Why would anyone post it if it’s not real?
It was a meme contest for men only.
Idk.
It’s juat funny and it being real or made up changes nothing.Dammit. Those bastards lied to me.
Wait. Hold up. There are people who tell lies on the internet???
No. Don’t believe them.
But she is clearly disguised as a man!
Gonna call fake on this one

Man its scary how real AI images look nowadays. Like if I didn’t already know this was AI, I’d be fooled
It’s also how ridiculous life has become. That image is great for an obviously fake article, but it may as well be true.
It a picture of a lady with a fake moustache. I could make this in MS Paint in minutes.
Please provide proof, I’d love to see your paint skills :)
Something something transgenderists in sports something!
/s, without doubt
Edit: dammit, it’s slop.
Can we please just leave the fucking /s shit on Reddit where it belongs? Did you really think someone wouldn’t get your clever sarcasm in this brilliant line of comedy: “Something something transgenderists in sports something!”
Man, I myself am trans. The best jokes about trans people come from trans people. It’s us, we’re the ones that impress our therapists so we get good grades in therapy!
In a world where Godwin’s Law exists, I find /s helpful. Keep trucking, OP.
