I just love how their plan is, “but Kamala is a cop!” and its like, “while yes, and the other guy is a 34 time convicted felon!”. Its like, thanks for pointing that out to America for me bro, couldn’t have drawn the contrast better myself!

We’re going to see a coordinated effort to flood every media outlet with as much shit as possible to see what will stick until eventually some unmitigated bullshit catches enough people’s attention to become the central talking point. At that point, whatever it is, will become essentially equivalent to the worst things Trump has done (which is a lot).

Could be she parked illegally and didn’t pay the ticket. Doesn’t matter. It’ll still be just as bad in voters’ minds as inciting an insurrection to overthrow the election.

Joe Biden has dropped out of the race for US President, endorsing Kamala Harris. There’s a large disinformation campaign against Biden focused on things like his age, that now have to pivot to finding things wrong with Harris.

On that note, now Trump is only 2 years away from what they said was too old.

I figured I’d give you the benefit of the doubt, and scrolled through your account history.

Instead of simply exhaling sharply through my nose, thinking there’s no way Russian bots actually give a shit about Lemmy, now I’m actually convinced that you’re a Russian troll.

You’ve posted about 100 comments a day since joining about a month ago. The longest gap between comments I can find is 6 hours. So at the very least, you’re a troll and terminally online.

In a number of these comments, you go way out of your way to tow the Russian propaganda line. Derailing your own points just to clarify that you didn’t say the thing that coincidentally Russia doesn’t want people to say.

Simping for Putin doesn’t quite explain why you’d care if someone said crimea was invaded or annexed. But being paid to spread propaganda sure fits the bill.

Buddy, saying you’re being paid is generous, that’s the best case scenario for you. If you’re not being paid then you’re just catastrophically stupid, and missing out on some really easy money.

People aren’t attributing all opposition to trolls, only the stuff that very clearly aligns with Russian/CCP/Israeli narrative building.

Jimmydoreisalefty is clearly a propaganda account. The amount of posts they aggregate daily is itself sign that this isn’t just some guy. There was no eamp up with that account either, it literally appeared on lemmy and started blasting 20-30 posts aday.

The account’s also hours of activity as suss as well.

only the stuff that very clearly aligns with Russian/CCP/Israeli narrative building.

But to them, that’s almost everything. They think every opinion that doesn’t align with the Democrat official party line is harmful to Biden’s reelection, and therefore beneficial to Russia or the CCP.

If you thought last week that Biden should be replaced, you got called a shill. If you think today that Biden shouldn’t be replaced, you’re called a shill. If you supported Kamala for president last week, you got called a shill. If you don’t support Kamala for president today, you’re called a shill.

If you support voting third-party, shill. If you say genocide is bad, shill.

I’ve been accused in this very thread of spreading pro-Russian propaganda because I corrected someone (in a different thread) on the year that Russia invaded Donbas.

It’s unhinged. Do they really think everyone with a different opinion is part of an orchestrated plot? Are they so deep in their echo chambers that they can’t conceive of someone having a different opinion? Are they unable to respond to different opinions without accusations of trechery?

This does not bode well for democracy.

If the only options are supporting genocide or being a Russian asset

So about those Ukrainians. Or is genocide, like imperialism, only bad when America does it?

I dunno man. It’s definitely getting repetitive, but when we know that there is a substantial Russian disinfo machine out there and support for the Russian invasion of Ukraine is such a consistent theme in these people AND Putin is one of the major beneficiaries of the general turn towards right-wing authoritarianism (because when our politicians say and do the same things it legitimizes those antidemocratic elements of his own regime), it’s not an unfair connection to keep drawing.

The most compelling argument to not call them Russian troll farmers would be for them to simply stop saying all the things a Russian troll farmer would say.

when we know that there is a substantial Russian disinfo machine out there

But… is there? I mean, I know Russian disinformation exists, but could you really say it’s “substantial”? It seems to me that Russian disinformation couldn’t be even 1% as damaging as the disinformation put out by Fox News or Donald Trump.

Why is there all this concern about foreign disinformation when the most damaging disinformation is coming from within America? (And remember, Donald Trump’s political ascent was built on “Obama is a secret Muslim born in Kenya”.)

It seems to me that the main reason we hear so much about foreign disinformation is because it’s a boogeyman to stop you from questioning your country’s narratives.

“Remember: Anyone who questions America’s narratives is a foreign agent! If you ever start to think maybe your country’s narratives are wrong, you’re being duped by foreign agents.”

Also, the influence of Russian trolls on Lemmy is definitely overstated. As far as I can see, anything that doesn’t sound like it came from the mouth of a Democrat gets downvoted into oblivion.

Russia can end the war and bring their fucking troops home at any time, but Putin is a dictator forcing the war to try to take Ukraine back. That does not make them orcs, and you do not deserve to have your bloodthirst rationalized by separating them from their humanity. If someone becomes a killer soldier, that is a tragedy; if someone is killed by a killer that is also a tragedy. These people all have families who will be affected by the loss of their loved one, whether that loss be total as in death or as in the loss of their humanity. I think if you support the Ukrainians against the Russian invasion that you probably have the correct view, but it doesnt make you ontologically just. And I can say so without supporting a tyrant like Putin. However, I wonder if you are familiar with the history leading up to this war, or if you think it just appeared to you as was presented on the news: a clash between good and evil like you see in Marvel movies. Most people who have looked into the history are not as firmly embedded in the camp of righteousness, and i think that some of your certainty is a display of ignorance.

The war is terrible and we gain nothing from turning our enemies into inhuman monsters. They aren’t. They’re people, maybe fucked up by circumstance, and maybe some are actually bad people. Violent clash and conflict and the resultant deaths are horrible, and inevitable in war. But its also important to understand why the war happened and why it persists. These people who have been fucked over by circumstance and forced to go to war, and then people who see it go down on TV start calling them orcs and wishing for their death. I’m not a part of any movement that foes that, I’ll find other ways to support the Ukrainian people, and I’ll call out bad behavior if I see it.

You are not ontologically righteous for wishing death on Russians. Its possible in fact that you are being pulled in the other direction, I hope you experience a change in course.

So when Russians who support the invasion of Ukraine do something, you think that you should also do it? They didn’t invent it, it comes from Ukraine and bloodthirsty supporters of Ukr (not all supporters of Ukraine are bloodthirsty, but there is a vocal minority that is) and some Russians adopted it probably because they think it sounds hardcore. Just like every pejorative ends up being used as a term of self identification by members of the group targeted by the pejorative. Doesn’t make it less dehumanizing, doesn’t make it okay in fact its kind of worse to say it since it agrees with Russians supporting the invasion, dont you think?

No, actually, it doesn’t. Propaganda is just “communication that is primarily used to influence or persuade an audience to further an agenda”.

It can be all verifiable facts, and it also doesn’t need to be bad either. The difference between a propaganda account and a non-propaganda account is mostly whether it is posting about one single issue on one single side all the time.

Every time I’m tempted to block them I feel like I need to keep them around simply to gauge how Lemmy is reacting to them as a way to check Lemmy’s health.

Also… if you block them that means they are more likely to appear to be speaking with authority to the ignorant because everyone who knows what’s actually going on is blocking them and so isn’t fact checking.

This right here is the correct path. Debunking their bs is never gonna change their minds. BUT, those that come along after and read the conversation can see that clearly one side is arguing in bad faith. It ain’t much, but it’s honest work.

I saw a post criticizing Harris (from the left) immediately after the announcement. Clicked on OP’s account and saw that up until just then, they had been very concerned about Biden’s age. Oh, and before that, unwilling to vote genocideJoe.

Even if they’re real, the difference is I’m going to show up and vote, no matter what.

I show up. I always show up. No matter how hopeless or how confident in the outcome. I encourage other citizens to do the same.

      Vote!

Critical to this race is convincing family and friends. Make sure your apathetic friends register and vote. Make sure you have as many conversations with your parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents.

Most people don’t bother to check everyone’s past comments. So, it’s not worth their time, really. They would probably just make a new account over deleting old ones.

Which part is the disinformation? I think “genocide Joe” is a bit over the top, but Biden has clearly not pushed back on the Palestinian genocide as hard as the left (reasonably) wants. As for Biden’s age, I think that’s been pretty well vindicated now.

I don’t dispute that the right disingenuously jumps on leftist issues, but I also think we need to grapple with the fact that the Democratic establishment has continuously chosen to make the party vulnerable to such attacks. Democrats should suck less than they do, not just less than Republicans.

The “GenocideJoe” rhetoric sort of ignores the fact that it would be even worse with Trump.

Itd be more accurate to go with “NotAsMuchGenocideJoe” vs “MaximumGenocideTrump”

There’s no indication Trump could be worse on Gaza. That’s something said by people who haven’t faced the reality of what’s actually happening there.

I’m willing to vote for and encourage others to vote for Harris. Biden is still Genocide Joe to me, there’s just no better nickname that reflects the true horror of what he helped enable.

I think zionist bots are in damage control right now same as the Rusdian/Chinese bots. Trying to make it seem like the pressure that led to Biden stepping down wasn’t a referendum on Biden’s out of control zionism.

And then there are people trying to square the reality that they have been dogmatically and aggressively defending a genocide enabler when they should’ve been calling for him to step down with everyone else. People are uncomfortable confronting what that means about them as people.

Trump has said he will send even more weapons and armaments to Israel to finish off Palestine. He is literally saying “I am going to enable more genocide than Biden.”

Right, but they literally already have billions in weapons and bombs from Biden. If you pour more water into an already overflowing bucket the bucket doesn’t become more full. People need to actually look at what’s happening in Gaza, not just what they hear on NPR or MSNBC.

I think people are just unwilling to admit that the moral pressure against Biden was the right play from the start, and that it worked. Biden’s not even going to be in office but people still need to try to justify to themselves how just a few weeks ago they were doing everything they could to try and shut down criticisms of Biden’s genocide complicity.

People don’t want to admit they were wrong on this because they know what it means morally – that their place in history would be the same as the german citizens who stood by and made excuses for themselves during WWII.

Worse would be “actively helping shell the region”. And I could imagine Trump would sign off on indiscriminate drone strikes without even a first thought.

They don’t need our help shelling the region, what are you talking about? Israel doesn’t need a signature to continue indiscriminate dronestrikes, they are doing that right now. They’ve cut off foid and water, they’ve destroyed all the hospitals and schools, they’re bombing the save zones, bulldozing cemetaries, literally shooting people indiscriminately.

I really get the impression you don’t actually understand what’s going on in Gaza. There is no “moderating hand” from Biden, and he’s given them everything they want already.

I have never once mentioned that Biden was leashing back Netanyahu.

If you can’t see that “leaving a box of ammo by their feet” is slightly less bad than “helping them shoot”, then adios.

                  Well, adios regardless.

Right, I’m not saying Trump is pro-palestine, I’m saying Biden placed exactly 0 limits on Israel, so they’re doing exactly as they wish (same as they’d do under Trump).

I think what’s revealing about you zionist guys is that you’re not making the same “not as bad on Israel” when it comes to Biden and Harris. If Biden is left of Trump on Israel (he’s not, but assuming your claim is true) then Harris is even further left of Biden.

You would think that having someone who polls better, who is to the left of Biden on Israel, would be good. Instead you’re still trying to do damage control for a guy who is no longer going to be in power and who has literally done nothing but give them more bombs and aid, same as Trump would.

Democrats should suck less than they do, not just less than Republicans.

While Trump is personally worse on this and so many other issues, Biden’s complete failure to contain Israel means that the results would probably be nearly identical.
