Oh god they are trying to do Plowshare 2.0.

The biggest surprise for me is that he is still alive
We put this man in charge of one of our branches of government. Let that sink in.
He’s not wrong. He’s just an idiot.
The key here is that you have to personally supervise the first explosion real close up to make sure the channels are correct. I had chatgpt design a special hard hard for you Mr Gangrinhch, so it’s got mondo safety parameters to keep you fit as a whistle
Eww.
I had to check and this dipshit is still alive.
Can we not have anything nice around here?
“Yes, we’re irradiated now, but gas is under $3/gal.”
The
geiger counterDow will be over 50,000!Less than that. They’d have to sell this particular gas at a discount, considering it would be radioactive after making this detour.
You’re forgetting the power of marketing. Call it “Atomic Premium”, claim it’s formulated specifically for giant trucks with fake balls attached to the hitch, get a few hick-hop artists to name drop it in songs about cruising down red dirt roads, and run a meme campaign implying only woke blue-haired lib trannies with nose rings oppose irradiated gas. They’d drink it if they thought doing so would “own the libs”.
The transported good would not be radioactive after the journey, though I can’t say the same for the vessel
Well, not Americans, but brown people halfway across the world would be. But they’re not people to Americans so who cares.
How bad would the radiation actually be?
How bad can it possibly be? It’s only being held apart by a screwdriver
Well it would be Dubai and the Saudis that would be irradiated. They should be fine with it right?
fuck them saudis and their sportswashing
the gas would likely be irradiated too. I heard of an early proposal to detonate nukes deep underground in the tar sands to bring the oil to the top, theoretically it would work but radioactive oil.
The Americans actually tried that with some gas reserves, and as expected nuclear fracking increased yields, but radioactive gas.
So they’re the only country who has nukes themselves for economic reasons…
the only country who has nuked themselves for economic reasons
Unless you count sealing gas field blowouts, which was apparently done five times and one time for methane blowout, and lots of other test explosions like geological exploration.
Are those economic reasons? Or disaster management?
39 explosions for geological exploration (trying to find new natural gas deposits by studying seismic waves produced by small nuclear explosions)
25 explosions to intensify oil and gas debits
22 explosions to create underground storage for natural gas
Does this sound like disaster management?
Not irradiated! It’s been treated with Shell Atomic Boost!
Just look for the glowing pump.
This is the talent McDonald’s marketing needs.
You mean my cars get free nuke juice? Why aren’t we doing this again?
That would guarantee a bright future for Dubai
I’ve stopped asking if people are this stupid, because yes, they are.
But, I think this is more about sowing fear, than a serious suggestion.
I keep trying to persuade myself, in spite of clear evidence to the contrary, that people are not this stupid. But, it doesn’t work.
Oh man… I hate to blow your bubble, but that guy is just repeating something that was under serious consideration about 50 years ago.
He probably just remembers the proposals, and not the problems people found in it.
He probably just remembers the proposals, and not the problems people found in it.
ding ding ding
And he’s not a responsible social media user. Especially as a public political figure, he should be checking that he’s not spreading misinformation.
(yes I know the opposite is in vogue with post-truth politics)
Leader (possibly) of the civilizing forces
Is this… actually Newt? Honestly can’t tell would appreciate clarification
Yes, it is him and it is a real tweet.
I too want to know if project plowshare is back on the menu
Isn’t Newt dead?
Brain yes, mouth to ass, no.
TBF he was a professor. He probably has a good ability to form complex sentences and manipulate concepts.
He is also a Conservative, Christian ideologue who has been steeped in both those Faith-based cultures for decades.
The Faith-based community tends to ultimately drift away from the Reality-based one.
Fuck. No, not yet
In the 1970s, Gingrich was a professor of history and geography at the University of West Georgia.
🤦
It’s not. This has been proposed multiple times throughout history. The U.S. program, named Project Plowshare, was active from the late 1950s to the 1970s and explored various peaceful applications for nuclear explosives. It was built on ideas from older, British and German plans. The Russians also had their own plans. This is not a new idea.
Where, in OP’s post, does it claim this is a new idea?
Don’t a bunch of the Arab states make like extravagant man made islands and epic waterways? And they can’t find the resources to build this waterway through a couple mountains?
Unfortunately, it would still be in close proximity to Iran and well within attack distance, so it would be completely pointless.
So make it a tunnel!
But once we get approval to for thermonuclear detonations in the middle east, we can modify the plan. We don’t need to dig a new canal if we just blow up any Iranian sites capable of attacking ships in the strait.
Easier to just lay more pipelines
lay more pipe
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Newt is not a new man
Newman!
For those who don’t know about it, Project Plowshare was a cold war project where the US investigating the use of nuclear weapons for geo engineering projects.
Here is a WTYP Podcast episode about it:
Well, I guess if negotiating in good faith with the people who neighbor it is off the table, then… Nope that’s still fucking idiotic.
antiwoke, or asleep as I like to call them
Comatose
