To be fair, a lot of his last album is way more interesting than what he’s known for in Spanish speaking countries.

Like Turista or Lo que le pasó a Hawaii are actually pretty good and the lyrics aren’t just horny bait either. The man has grown into a voice for more than just sex, booze and party.

Why is a man wearing a dress automatically an attention seeker?

I wear skirts in the summer because they’re more comfortable than shorts.

Puerto Rican rapper. Repugs had a collective aneurysm when he was announced for the half time show because oh no a latino

This is fake news though. He doesn’t have plans for a dress apparently.

He is an American. Puerto Rico is an American territory, so when he is there is is in the country.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in 2017 and the clusterfuck of a governmental response, the only thing Trump supporters and I agreed on was that the responsibility fell on the President of Perto Rico, who was an unqualified fuck-up.

I have zero clue who the Puerto Rican president was in 2017. But as an American territory, why wouldn’t America have some responsibility? Even if it’s just sending aid money to hire contracted help.

For people unaware, the inhabited US territories except for American Samoa are like states, except the federal government has more power to override their decisions and they don’t get a say in the federal government. They still have the same federal government, and I believe they have non voting legislators who are able to speak on their behalf but can’t vote (as does DC)

However their people are full US citizens, just as much as those born in the 50 states. This means that if I, a white English speaker from the contiguous 48, were to move to Puerto Rico I’d be more than permitted, but would lose my say in the federal government until I moved back. The inverse is also true and Puerto Ricans who move to a state get to vote in federal elections.

All that said, Puerto Rico should be given the option for statehood or independence. They’re more populous than several states (the problem with the pacific territories is they’re each tiny and some states we have don’t have the population to justify the same number of senators as California).

                Whoosh

                Title

Donald Trump was the president of Puerto Rico in 2017, since it is an American territory. Some people in MAGA didn’t realize this. OP was playing on this fact to say that Donald Trump was a fuck up.

This is the distraction for the white, christonationalist straight people. Those predisopsitioned to support ICE. The aging boomers who are not distressed by current events. All those barking to comply.

Rage bait for engagement exists at all levels.

Is this the state of the press now?

No? What gave you that impression? The only semi-serious press I see about this is from the sports column of USA Today. Everything else – what little there is – is tabloid trash like The Daily Beast or the Daily Mail (don’t construe this as me putting those on the same level; a tide pool and an abyssal trench are both in the ocean).

Just because something on Twitter says “BREAKING” doesn’t mean it’s receiving actual coverage. “The press” isn’t a monolith.

The dress is resistance. Joy is resistance. Yes all this shit is awful and happening but if we’re not also doing things to support others and bring up people who are being marginalized and scapegoated, then the oppressors are winning.

I agree it’s fucking stupid to fight about it, and yes, it’s a distraction, but that doesn’t take away from the real pain that people are feeling that is caused by these distraction tactics.

Two things can co-exist, and everything is related.

Is it inconsequential? Or is it just just catalystic? Like is a crash out seen as valid by default or no

It has a generally negative connotation, like someone who is filmed throwing a tantrum in public, or who posts a bunch of absolutely furious tweets in response to getting called out. Usually it’s considered an embarrassing and excessive reaction (possibly career-ending, or reputation besmirching). But sometimes you’ll see someone post a video/screenshot of a crash out with the title: “that was the most justified crash out ever,” implying that yes, their reaction was extreme, but for a good reason.
