Golden Girls and Mama’s House
Hollywood Squares, 10,000 Dollar Pyramid, Newlywed Game. It was a different time
Shadoe Stevens for the block!
Nobody’s gonna mention The Joker’s Wild? Ok then.
I’m in my 50s. The Price is Right and Press Your Luck were the best things about being sick on a school day. I’d haul my pillow and blanket out to the couch and snooze there when grandma watched her stories. She always made aure I was awake for those game ahows, thoigh.
Having to watch Days of our Lives with mum here.
Who knew Stefano could die so many times!?
I got addicted to IKEA heights in the 2010s. That Federico was a scoundrel. https://youtu.be/DscIhisUgn0
For the profanely ignorant, this was a soap opera filmed live in an IKEA without the store knowing.
Bob Barker & Campbell’s chicken noodle soup with crumbled saltine crackers. Stay in pajamas all day, comandeer the couch, comfy blanket. Coughing sneezing fighting the chills or fever. The price is right was every sick kids’ backdrop.
I was this 8 yr old in 1965. Romper Room, TPIR, What’s My Line, soaps, soaps, soaps, local news at noon. We had, at most, 4 channels to choose from. Mickey Mouse Club in the afternoon.
Having learned to read at like four years old greatly expanded available entertainment. Iirc by around fourteen or fifteen I discovered Japanese psychological surrealism in the form of Kobo Abe, while spending days at a country house with bupkis to do except read tons of books and magazines. Which discovery definitely affected my taste for the rest of my life.
During the same summer in the same attic, I found a collection of poems by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, with a note from the translator and editor: “we would certainly think that this name is made up, except no man names his longfellow ‘Henry’”.
Was 8 in the mid 70s. Captain Kangaroo Second rate Hans Barbara cartoons e.g. Snaglepus Love American Style Some game shows price is right PBS stuff Then Rocky and Bullwinkle Hour
Hell yeah! And after The Price is Right I’d either switch to one of those trashy daytime talk shows, or Lifetime Channel because there was always a good chance that they’d be in the middle of a marathon of Unsolved Mysteries reruns.
Watch The Price is Right, then snooze on the couch with the soaps as background noise.
This happened
I know I was there

I was recently watching a Pixar short film from the early 90s called Tin Toy. It has audio from The Price Is Right in the background with Bob Barker as host. Who would’ve thought a short film from over 30 years ago would involve a tv show still running now
It’s just not the same with Drew Carrey.
Nickelodeon or HBO for me
Nick didn’t exist in the old days. I had HBO in my teens but sometimes they had garbage on.
…and peanut-butter choccy shakes…
On at 10 in the morning. Afterwards the soaps would come on and I’d break out the VHS that had Beetlejuice, Willow, and Princess Bride. Good times.
I think we all had the same VHS tape recorded from one of those HBO/Showtime free weekends?
