I wish it were fall vacation, and normalized for even adults (around the world, not just as a job benefit for some but as a fact of life) to take at least a month off somewhere between late August and the end of October. That’s peak time to go outside and enjoy the changing weather, perfect temperature for a light jacket, enjoy the scenery with all the trees changing colors, etc – the middle of summer’s just too fucking hot, now. You’re either boiling alive in the sun or it’s pissing rain, and no in-between. It’d probably do wonders for the average person’s mental health, and air quality/the environment, too.

Buuuuut line must go up and we’ve got pumpkin spice lattes to sell, so.

Big autumn head myself! It’s just so fucking cozy.
I have a big lake here and everyone is just walking around it in circles all day long because Autumn is just so cool.
The falling leaves are my kind of cherry blossoms, very short lived but so beautiful.
I don’t how anybody would prefer any other season. Like whats is wrong with you?!
Everyones talking about how great flowers in spring smell, but have you smelled autumn?!
Im just a bit sad it took me 24 years to realize, if not I would have cherished them alot more.
It is no use though to dwell in past though, looking forward to lots of really cozy autumns!!

Summer holiday: its probably to hot for school. Winter holiday: its probably too snowy to get to school safely. Easter holiday: go pretend to care about religion instead of school. Autumn holiday: go help your family get ready for winter instead of school.

So time off was never part of the equation.

We got so much time off in November due to teacher student conferences, teacher days, and other fuckery we usually did go on vacation in fall.

One year we went to Disney and the boat guy asked where we were from and over half the boat said NJ, he asked if we were a group and we all laughed and said no. Cause we weren’t. We just all decided vacation instead of teacher learning days.

As someone who hates the cold, gonna have to disagree on it being a bad season. As much as I hate the bees/wasps/mosquitoes, I hate the Devil’s Dandruff ( snow ) and the ice that follows with it more.

I can handle the higher heat, but struggle a lot more with the cold.

Personally, I’m over-insulated (fat), naturally run hot and sweaty even besides that, and am from a Nordic country so I suffer in anything over 20°C (68F).

Except when cycling outdoors, then I PREFER it hot, easily tolerating over 30C (86F) as long as I have plenty of water, sugar, and electrolytes 😁

I have never in my life supplemented “electrolytes,” and have always been fine, and I run distance.

It’s more marketing bullshit for beverages than anything. You are already getting too much salt I can assure you.

But if you do find yourself getting muscle cramps, it can be from low potassium.

Fun fact: when cycling, I usually do at least 60km, sometimes 100 or above and I tend to already start to sweat profusely 5 minutes into any kind of workout.

Also, since I’m very heavy, I’m slow in spite of putting around 180-220 watts to the pedals throughout, so that’s many hours and many liters of water, salt, and other minerals expelled with nothing coming in except for water, a couple bananas or three, and a few electrolyte tabs in one of the two water bottles I bring and frequently refill.

I guarantee you that, no matter what the “average” person of average weight with average amounts of perspiration doing an average to long duration workout needs, I DO see a significant benefit from the electrolytes compared to when I had nothing but water and bananas for the 4-8 hour rides.

I know, that’s why I mentioned it, along with salt, which is an electrolyte as well.

If you have a decent diet, you don’t need to supplement electrolytes, according to The Guardian, and my experience.

But if you do notice muscle cramps, you want to try to up your potassium to see if that’s the problem, which is what I was trying to say.

The translation of the Greek term for summer is “good weather.”

Go back to whatever frigid Baltic rock you came from, OP. Talk shit about me with the puffins, it’s fine.

That translation makes sense - Mediterranean climates (like Greece has) don’t have to deal with humid summers. It’s easier to like hot weather when your sweat evaporates.

In places with hot, humid summers, sweat just piles up until you’re a shiny, dripping, salty mess. And you still feel hot.

It also makes sense if “sunshine” is considered “good weather.” Mediterranean climates have their wet season in winter, so summers are the dry season, with clear skies and little rain. It makes sense in Greece, but other places get regular thunderstorms in summer, occasional tropical storms/hurricanes, or season-long monsoons that bring torrential rain inland.

      Right there with you.

Summer has been pretty brutal this year, just so ungodly humid. Fortunately a dehumidifier costs a lot less to run than air conditioning.

And fall is ok temp wise, and the smells and colors are nice, but all the work of raking leaves and shit sucks big time. Especially when you have trees that don’t drop until the very tail of fall, after the brutal cold has started.

Almost no bugs now, until we get a good bit of rain. No bugs to speak of for a month here. Or longer. I am leaving my door open with no insect intrusions.

Also, where I am, early spring might not have many parasitic insects, but there are explosions of ticks, wood tick types, they don’t generally carry disease but still. After it dries out in the summer there are like none now.

Plus spring has tons of cold snaps here. We get leaves later than moscow even though they are way north.

That sounds nice. Where I am there are lots of mosquitos, flies, bees and wasps from late spring until we get a good cold snap. So there’s usually a couple weeks where it’s warm enough to have the door and windows open with no worries for those pests.

Yes, summer is indeed more hot.

It’s hotter than the other seasons, and it’s hotter than it used to be.

                I don’t like the hot.

I prefer the cold, and my comment was saying I prefer the cold, specifically because I can’t handle the hot well.

I was saying it’s very silly to claim that the only reason people claim to prefer the cold season is because they haven’t experienced real cold.

I’ve experienced the cold. I prefer it.

I still see no contradiction, but maybe I’m just dense?

Yeah I’ve asked my mom, it was cold here in the winter in the soviet era too. And I believe a lot of people had these things called “jobs”, except they were even less voluntary than they are now, so being at work for the entirety of the sunny daytime period of 10 AM to 3 PM hasn’t exactly been invented with capitalism.

The one thing capitalism has changed is it gathered everyone into the cities because there’s a lot less support of small countryside schools and such. So instead of walking 5 KM to bus stop to take the bus to school, kids can now take a city bus that stops closer to their home and comes every 30 minutes at most.

There’s a bunch of problems you could solve by abolishing capitalism, but weather ain’t one of them.

they were even less voluntary than they are now

People that don’t have jobs today lose their housing and starve to death. You think there’s a level below that?

And no, what caused that was mechanization of farming.

Now, thanks to capitalism, we’re dealing with heatwaves beyond predictions and snowstorms that out freeze historic data, so I wouldn’t say that capitalism isn’t impacting the weather. Also, before it, people had the ability to take breaks from work, which doesn’t really exist today.

My hands feel like they’re being crushed by boulders, and face feels like needle face x1000 in the cold. The peak of summer may be miserable but I can still function without extreme pain. And before anybody mentions better gloves or a face covering, it doesn’t help. I’ve tried every magical glove in existence. And heated ones make me sweat after 5-10 minutes and I’m arguably in a worse position, same with full face coverings. FUCK WINTER.

Wool is the only (that I am aware of,) fabric that will keep you warm after it’s wet. Cotton is the worst, it sticks to your skin when wet.

If you are caught outside, stranded, they say to make sure to take layers off, because if you sweat, you die.

Really depends, if youre sitting in a pool with a few beers or not. Living in a condo like a rat i basically skipped summers. Hate to share public places who litter and either themselves or their dog pees or poos in the place.

Get a garden and it’s fun again. I know it’s not possible for everyone but condo life is, for me, inhumane.
