People have become so poor that the people blocking them from food have chosen to forfeit their lives.

I don’t think people are stealing the steaks for their nutritional value, so that is still not the right framing.

I saw an old guy putting cans of Klik in his haversack. Then I saw him put a bag of carrots in as well. He also grabbed an 8-pack of double-A batteries and that’s when I turned him in. /s

Do brits have barbecue, or was that eradicated after their war on flavors?

Looks to me like it would be easy to rip off with bare hands. I can’t tell if its the Styrofoam backer we use here in the us or if its cardboard, maybe plastic? Still probably flimsy enough to just rip.

Now image every tenth customer starts stealing.

Now the company has to increase prices to compensate for the loss of profits. We all start paying for the shoplifters, ridiculous, right?

But who are we really protecting by paying more, though? The shoplifters or the company? Who’s REALLY the parasite here?

This statement is something that I dont understand. While yeah, if that would happen to a big store, it might be alright but if I ran a corner store, I wouldnt be okay with this.

Also people who steal food here are gypsies and narcs. Normal people with financial difficulties get their goods from government, food shelters, churches and other help associations.

Now, I’ve been fucking dirt poor, I’ve gone sleep hungry, I’ve had to walk to every place instead of taking public transit. Still I’ve never thought about stealing food.

I’ll try to help fam. The hungry deserve to eat and they have the moral high ground over the ownership class that would rather that person starve and the food they stole destroyed.

Could you present a weaker strawman if you tried?

You aint solving hunger by stealing ribeyes crabs and lobsters.

Normal people that struggle financially seek help from the government, they go to food banks, there is help to get without having to resort to stealing.

You don’t just wake up one morning and all of a sudden have to steal to survive. This isn’t the US. (The hint is in the £ sign)

Because drug addicts are famously affluent and gypsies don’t need food at all. Also capitalism is widely known for taking care of the people in need and no one ever goes hungry or homeless unless they want to.

“What happened?” are you for real?

Did you not read any newspaper, watch any news, or generally exist in society since 2016?

First you decided to bazooka yourselves in the foot with the Brexit vote, then went through a revolving clown show of increasingly bizarre political sideshow pieces that pretended to be PM, before finally opting to negotiate an EU exist that was about as disastrous as it could’ve been for your economy.

Add in the fact that the entire world has been turning to shit around you due to despotic leaders trying to rape their neighbours/the climate/populace/actual kids/everything joined by a cabal of evil billionaires who are gleefully destroying democracy and the world economy so they can go out in one final last hurrah of capitalism, and you have the audacity to ask “What happened?”?.

I seriously can’t with these “I don’t do politics” idiots anymore.

I’d say a good 50% of people are not paying attention to current events/politics, then 40% who follow somewhat but don’t really understand as they lack the critical thinking skills necessary to actually process the information and end up parroting the talking points of their preferred media, and then finally 10% who realize just how fucked everything is.

It’s less than 10% because some of those that are able to comprehend what’s happening are the ones who made it happen and/or are rooting for it like nothing else they’ve ever done. This is exactly what many want, them being on a high horse as many as possible never even getting the chance of dreaming of that position.

Eh at first glance I’d almost lump most of them in with that 40%, but I also have a hard time comprehending anyone of proper intelligence being that maniacal, so yeah I suppose you’ve got an excellent point. That said, most MAGAts I see in the real world are just on the bandwagon, heck most of the ones I meet can barely rub two brain cells together regarding politics to the point I have a small level of sympathy for just how stupid they are.

i don’t, stupid people are an anchor, frankly the bottom should 20% loss the ability to vote. BUUUUT!!

They get UBI. (and nothing small, like 20-30K pegged to inflation or something, something BIG like that.)

since they wont be represented in the voting spectrum any more, but they still are impotent for operation and frankly, we all know some dumb ass that we like or love. we wouldn’t abandon them. but frankly they don’t posses critical thinking skill so they should get a dif societal task, acting as our strongest consumers or creatives, they could even save and start a business, remember a lot of business people aren’t geniuses like engineers or scientists. we would totally be fine it we locked it to the bottom 20% (or whatever ratio would actually work, this is more of a generalization.) and i don’t think we would get into any situation where that 20% lost voting rights would creep up, thanks to the new UBI anchor keeping the gov from having to pay more people, and the remaining 80% of people would be more likely to see though bullshit, especially now that the bottom 20% are disenfranchised from it. they won’t peddle nonsense for these bad actors.

I could understand the idea in theory, but it could never be implemented in the real world without bias or manipulation. Look at the current administration, they’d simply deem anyone other than MAGA mentally incompetent to cement their power (like shoehorning TDS into the next DSM release). On top of which, the UBI you suggest would never be enough to actually live on or even be supplementary, further impoverishing those subject to it (see the current problems with SSI). Companies in lower income areas will simply raise prices since there is more money to be extracted.

Realistically we need a drastic overhaul of American society that tips the scales back to the people, but at this point I dont know how that could be achieved since 20% will screech communism and vote against it.

no they don’t live off it, ubi isn’t something you live off of, you have a job with it as well. after all, society requires everyone to chip in for things to work, as the current brake down were all experiencing has shown what happen when people don’t pay their fair share.

and yes, bad acting partys that use and manipulate these people will throw a fit, if this were to happen even if we say reduced that threshold of exclusion to the bottom 10%, this is more what i meant about me generalizing, the idea is thta we shave off the bottom and pay them money in exchange for theyre vo-!!

hay, how about this instead, what if we added an option to the ballets to get the UBI for a year OR choose who to vote instead of forcing people out.
