Yeah I always carry a couple 20s just in case for those reasons, but not a debit card. In addition to everything else, a debit card is a direct link to your money. A thief figures out how to use it, that’s your money gone.

If you’re in the states just use a credit card. Hold is out there but as long as you aren’t going towards your limit then it’s fine and ignorable. Just pay it off every month and it’ll build your credit too. I don’t even carry a debit card with me anymore.
Same with Ames IA

Fear is such a strong word there. Pity. I pity men like that. It’s not alpha, everything they said is fear.
Fear of different races. Fear of different sexualities. Fear of anything different from their social norm, breaking out, doing anything different.
I see someone so stuck in their way of thinking that they are terrified of everything, and I pity them.
Real actual strong men don’t care. At all. Homosexuals and other races don’t bother them. Real men don’t care about other people live their lives or how other people see them. Actual men don’t need labels and they definitely don’t need to prove their manliness to anyone. Posts like this cause pity because they’re so desperate to prove to everyone (and themselves) that they are masculine, when all I see is a scared boy.

I have no idea where you are but not even a single battery is 25 cents where I live.
Even then, you’re still literally throwing away money when you get rid of it instead of buying a product you can reuse in any other future toy, remote, whatever. Throwing away money is the dumbest thing. You don’t make any sense, not financially, ecologically, my original comment I think still reigns true, it’s pure laziness.

Yeah I guess it’s “weird” to use rechargeable batteries which are only slightly more than regular batteries but can be used over and over and over again. Putting aside “anti consumption” that’s just plain the better deal

From the votes, I think you are the outlier.

I get people even here who just swear up and down it’s impooooooosible for them to switch for a littany of excuses. It costs too much (it doesn’t, it’s actually way cheaper), why would I put them in a remote? (Literally why wouldn’t you) They aren’t as convenient (compared to buying them at a store?). Or my favorite “they don’t work as well” ,which they don’t in maybe 5% of cases. So they could still replace 95% of their alkaline but let’s be real they just don’t want to even try.
They’re still there, and usually it’s pure laziness, or just arrogance that they don’t care about the immense waste.

No I read it, I get what you mean. If it’s about gluttony you would be targeting everyone, not just the poors, because obviously we look at the extravagance of the rich and that’s where the waste is, but saw your nuance. Those dang poors celebrating thanksgiving? Disgusting. The only people who can be gluttonous and wasteful are the rich, am I right? Right.

The US data center industry provides significant benefits to local communities—creating hundreds of thousands of high-wage jobs…
Bullshit. Real tired of this argument. It’s well known that datacenters are minimally staffed. Iowa got one and they convinced people that it would bring high paying jobs. Of course it didn’t. The high paying jobs are in tech centers, and even then they are less and less. Data centers are meant to just run with minimal involvement from humans. Everyone should fight for them to not be near them.

Yeah holidays are only for those who can afford it!

That would be an interesting badge though on post, similar to the new user on Voyager. We are so small we could have a voting system to apply a spam badge to user that would expire after 30 days or something.
Same, I recently looked for vehicles and this was an option we desperately wanted. We have a great ev now that’s tiny and efficient, but a small truck would have been great
Yeah, I’m happy for that but worried my current phone won’t make it until then. I wish they gave a date for when that’ll be happening

Nice, I’ll have to check it out on my deck! Just had th x button issue myself
Honestly didn’t know the 99% was per year. My math was misleading because of rounding, but I was doing 0.990.990.99*0.99
Those numbers seem very heavily skewed in your favor - and even then with them, you’re willing to gamble that you’re not the 1 out of 5? Having a kid is a life-altering thing, a “You’re probably not getting the job you dreamed of or live where you want” type of life alteration at a young age - or at least you’re putting those things off for decades. I mean, you do you I guess, I’d prefer to know what I’m getting into first.
That’s the neat part aint it. Even for condoms, probability is only 99% for each time you do it. That means that it’s 99% chance you won’t get pregnant the first time. Then 98% safe 2 times having sex, then 96% safe if you have sex 4 times, and on and on. That’s with a good birth control option. The “pull out method” is not a good one. Once you’re maybe okay, and that’s a strong maybe. Every time beyond that is a gamble that rivals a vegas casino.
So yeah, those odds gotta be pretty damn good to be able to trust it.
No, all it would do is fracture the existing community, with some leaving for the new and some staying here unaware. Until there is an official migration tool in Lemmy itself this is the only way to retain the community that was built
