Advocate for antivax bullshit that kills people? Sure! Encourage politicians to stop live-saving cancer research, gut the VA, and reduce safety standards that will have more people suffering? Cool beans!

Oh, you don’t like that and want to voice your opinion? GFY

Apparently, writing an inspiring post about taking action and ways to protest was just too much for the delicate sensibilities of the internet overlords. I was banned for “inciting violence.”

Who knew that encouraging people to stand up for what they believe in was such a radical concept?

Assuming this is America, that guy requested for that to happen because it’s a less excruciating death than the other chair.

But here’s why it’s still an issue: being shot should not be the most humane option we give someone lmfao

There has been serious doubt that painkillers in lethal injection were enough to work. But the death penalty should be off the table since so many are wrongly convinced, unless the convicted requests it as the more humane option, because prison is currently retributive and cruel, rather than rehabilitative and humane.

Is eat the rich generally a call for violence? I actually don’t really know what people mean when they say this.

If we let the rich continue as they have been doing, then we’ll be forced to either all starve to death or sustain ourselves on the only meat available.

it is a slogan calling for an eradication of the extremely influential and powerful, to redistribute their wealth and return it to those whom it was stolen from.

Also, I don’t believe vague calls for violence like this are even illegal in the US. Has to be something specific and actionable.

To be fair, you’re still presuming the “old system/rules” holds true for you. Did you see the “campus protest” EO, for example? Not a huge leap to arresting anything they deem illegal.

I’ve always viewed it as a call to repurpose the resources currently hoarded by the rich.

I think Reddit is just pretending to interpret it as incitement to cannibalism.

It has always been a threat / call to violence and anyone saying otherwise is trying to justify it / soften the meaning.

Why would I say otherwise to justify? And regarding the softening, that’s no problem some meat tenderizer won’t solve, It’s not that you have to be rich, you know. Handing over the loot is not too much to ask, seriously. If you can’t find the irony in there, you might want to watch the same titled movie from the 1980s. I doubt you’ll like it.

If you thought Reddit was anything but on the side of Elon, Thiel, and the Nazi plutocrats, you haven’t been paying attention. And it will get worse and worse as time goes on.

They’re trying to control the conversation to the point that the Overton Window embraces open fascism, and it’s working.

Take this as a very good sign. They are afraid of implications of spreading this discourse. Go forth widely and proclaim it: “eat the rich”.

But in all seriousness let’s not loose the momentum. Online or offline we need to continue to push this narrative against capital, corruption, and genocide.

Why do you think we’re here?

I think that depends largely on somebody’s “join” date. If they’re under 6 months old, they probably got banned/censored from Reddit. If they joined in the last 6-12 months, it’s probably because of Reddit’s AI policies. If they joined 12-18 months ago, it was probably due to the API changes shutting down third-party apps. If they’re older than that, then they’re probably just tankies.

I get your point but I left reddit & joined the lemmyverse just a week ago, and did not get banned/censored.

I just felt that a ton of small niggles both technical and content-/moderation-wise had accumulated towards a tipping point.

I have used old.reddit for the longest time and there’s always been some glitches (…). There seem to be delays, and they’re getting longer. Whether this is just old.reddit or in general, I do not care.

There are other indicators that reddit isn’t interested in keeping old.reddit working. It’s just a question of time.

Then there’s bots, including wetware bots. Whether they’re just re-posting to farm karma or actively flooding certain topics with vile opinion or - after a noticeable delay that has nothing to do with timezones - tip the up/downvote balance in their favor: they are here, and it’s not getting better.

The comments in this thread remind me of something, I forget the original medium, but it was about fairy tales.

Paraphrasing, it spoke about how people passed along fairy tales, not because of our belief in dragons existing, but to reassure us that dragons can be defeated.

Also I recommend everyone watch, or rewatch, V for Vendetta. Many may suggest reading it, which is absolutely as valid. However, as a fan of movies, Hugo Weaving’s performance is in a league of it’s own.

The original long-winded quote is from GK Chesterton, but the shorter, neater quotable one is from Terry Pratchett, or more recently Neil Gaiman.
