5·5 hours agoI tried jumping as high as I could, but it turns out my momentum is keeping me in orbit around Sol, and it would take an astonishing amount of energy to overcome that.
Plus, I have a suspicion that I’d succumb to the Death Space before I could get close enough.

8·8 hours agoTrump never does anything, not even things that are part of his official duties as President, unless there is a quid pro quo, specifically, something that benefits him personally is involved.
I just find it ironic that so many people are willing to do all of these corrupt actions for Trump and as far as I can tell, they receive almost no benefit. In fact, for lawyers there’s a correlation between working for Trump and being disbarred.
Trump would never in a million years do anything like all of these sycophants are doing. I am sure that Trump thinks they’re all complete morons.

10·8 hours agoMaybe the standard deductible increased so much that everyone can use free services to file the EZ version.
Edit: Article blames the decline completely on AI tax services.
He gives them a week because that’s when the next TACO Tuesday is.
The last time I looked, there were also legal casinos using a similarly transparent schtick.
What they do is that you don’t directly win money from gambling. Everything is presented as if it’s related to a sweepstakes, because sweepstakes are a legal version of gambling.
It works something like, you can pay to get entries in a sweepstakes, and I think you can even gamble with your sweepstakes entries to try to get more entries. Then because you entered the sweepstakes, you automatically win, and the sweepstakes pays out in fake money like gems. Then you can also gamble with the fake money. Finally, the casinos will buy the fake money from you using real money.
I may not have gotten this explanation exactly right, but it’s in the ballpark.

7·1 day agoI don’t know what you read, if it was actually truncated for you, but there is an entire article. It’s just that the article’s actual content is “Did you know Steam has porn? Here’s a few porn-related Steam anecdotes.” The part specifically mentioned in the title, though, is just like you said, it has no more information than is in the title.
I think they are saying that more information on that topic is in the linked non-free Bloomberg article.

14·1 day agoI’d say it’s their most effective direct tool.
But if you count indirect tools, I think the propaganda out there is more effective. There are school districts where somebody on the school board encountered a bit of propaganda, and then before you know it, the school district is choosing on its own to censor their own libraries of things like LGBTQ+ materials.

Health - Resources and discussion for everything health-related@lemmy.world•Around 1 in 5 young people use AI chatbots for mental health advice, survey findsEnglish
0·1 day agoThat’s not my experience….
One of the most common fundamental mistakes people make when dealing with other people is the assumption that the other person thinks just like them. “If they only knew what I know, and if they had access to the same tools I use, they would definitely 100% make the same decisions as me.” But that’s simply not true. I’m confident that you see examples of this on a daily basis.
People generally want actual human connection, genuine empathy.
Even neurodivergent people? I don’t think that’s the only exception, either. Some people are simply intensely private, and they don’t want other people to know about their problems, even anonymously.
A whole hell of a lot of people are introverts, and feel stressed with the expectation to talk to other people. Based on your not seeing people wanting to avoid human conversation, I have to assume you’re an extrovert, but I might be wrong about that. But if you are an extrovert, it’s not surprising that an introvert doesn’t make any sense to you.
There are people who probably wouldn’t mind talking to people, but who don’t like the expectation that they’ll have to keep talking, or prefer the convenience of chatting at their own pace. Maybe they prefer a chat bot over a human because you can send it a chat line once per hour and it won’t be confused.
These are just a few reasons that I quickly thought of that people might prefer a chat bot. I’m guessing there are many other reasons. If you approach the concept with empathy, you’ll probably be able to think of reasons, yourself.
I can’t see people actually getting meaningful support from a chat bot, as they don’t tend to ask good questions. You would probably get bad advice instead.
Yes, now we’re back to the point of the post. That chat bots are not built to deal with this and so therefore are likely giving bad advice. Thus, why I said we need a LLM chat bot that is specifically engineered to give good therapeutic advice.
Even if it was a human, Chris would be wrong with his lie about “90% of scientists.” Not sure why people think a lie will help their argument in cases like this.

0·1 day agoYou’re technically right, which as we all know, is the best kind of right.
I do think that most people’s brains gloss right over the logical contradiction and act as if it said that nobody said “anything” rather than “nothing.”
But that is not what the meme actually says. Now that you’ve pointed it out, it’s obviously wrong.
Yeah, the pic even explicitly states that you got to heaven. And would it really be heaven if you went there and your bad behavior was brought up like this? I think not. So, therefore, the conclusion must be that this isn’t being brought up as bad behavior. Jesus is showing you this to laugh about it with you.

politics @lemmy.world•Room bursts into laughter as MAGA influencer flounders to name one way the economy has improved under TrumpEnglish
35·1 day agoThat guy he’s arguing against, Parker, basically debates against random MAGA people for a living. I think I saw a comment from someone on one of these videos that he debates people for hours a day.
The thing that I think he’s exceptionally good at is rattling off a bunch of surprisingly relevant facts like he did in this video. I’ve seen many other people try to quickly rattle off facts in a debate like that, and they almost always either stray off topic or end up exaggerating so much that it’s become a lie. But somehow Parker manages to avoid those things.
Anyways, my point is that you’d have to be crazy to try to debate against Parker without knowing at least a few facts to support your point.

0·1 day agoThe “absolutely nobody” theme was originally supposed to highlight somebody making an argument for something that obviously nobody had ever felt the need to argue against.
It was usually a very obscure argument about something that nobody else had ever thought about, or the visual version where someone created something that didn’t need to be created, or it could be an argument about something that is so obviously true that it is obvious that nobody would ever try arguing against it… And that’s it. It doesn’t really have any use outside of those two narrow areas.
It barely made sense as a meme in the first place and of course, it was immediately misused by the vast majority of people who used it and just mindlessly tacked it onto anything because it was the popular meme at the time. I was so happy when people stopped using it.

Edit: Wow it posted. Must be a Voyager bug.
But imagine trying to convince people that you were proven right because you managed to find one other person who agreed with you! And they didn’t even actually say they agreed with you.

Also Yoda.
