It’s unclear how such an action would help lower U.S. borrowing costs.
Didn’t vote? You voted for fascism. Congratu-fuckin’-lations, now you’ll never have to vote again.
For anyone seriously wondering why Canada walked away from the table, this is exhibit A. Our “deal” would have lasted about two weeks, in exchange for permanent concessions.
A US led global economic depression will lower US borrowing costs, and restart Fed QE operations that were needed during Trump’s first term. This would help juice the stock market even more, even as employment/housing/financial losses crash hard, and inflation continues. While it would lower tax revenue, and require even more borrowing, more tax cuts for the rich (indexing capital gains to inflation), with huge military spending increases, is “cure for everything” for Republlicans. Increasing global hostility towards US is a tool for media to rally support for the fuhrer.
WTF? If anything we should be raising them.
Also, any “jobs report” under this administration is extremely sus.
Considering they fired the last person who objected to falsifying the report, I would say they’re deliberately fabricated.
Well yeah, it’s the smart thing to do and prevents runaway inflation, but it’s unpopular because it takes money away so he’s gonna push for the opposite
Are threats what trump thinks negotiations are?
Literally yes. He wrote (correction, had someone write for him) a book about it
I’m familiar with the book. I love books and I love reading. The two books I will never read are trump’s book and hitler’s book. I believe trump has only read one of them (or at least had someone explain it to him).
There have been lots of questions about tiny-d donnie’s connections to the mob over the years.
If so, it would explain a lot about the way he goes about trying to make “deals” (lol).
We will be doing so much winning that you may get tired of all the winning! 🫲🍊🫱
What…? Seriously, like… what the actual fuck…? Is he threatening to nuke the economy by executive-ordering a halt to international trade if the fed doesn’t do what he says, which is not only deeply idiotic, but also completely unrelated to how bond rates are set…? Is that what’s actually happening here???

But Republicans are “good for the economy”, right?
Yes he is. Why are you surprised
The jobs report is fake. Why is everyone pretending it isn’t?
It’s so beyond the pale too. I mean yeah, numbers have been fake for years now, dating back to before covid even.
But this gigantic estimate, then getting blown out by 3x?! Bruh.
They were fake before? How? I’d argue that they need to use U-6 vs. U-3, but people have been saying that for years. Usually that data is something people could find for themselves, but most of the “liberal media” reports on U-3.
This administration has shown that no amount of corruption and scheming is beyond them, though, and tiny-d donnie values only loyalty to him, so now the numbers are suspicious.
That is so much Russian talking point crap
Provide evidence or STFU
Saying the Fed has always been lying is just trolling to sow distrust.
We have enough already.
Well not lying, but not what everyone thinks it is.
One person picks up a side job after getting hours cut at his work? That’s a new job created, even if that person makes less than they used to.
A guy gets laid off but registers with a gig app to try to pick up some driving or delivery tasks with spotty income prospects? That person is not “unemployed”.
You aren’t recognized as looking for work despite having no job? You don’t count as unemployed either.
The “underemployed” is probably better to get an idea.
All true. But done consistently the trend will give you insights into how people are doing.
Sure, but situations evolve that change the meaning.
15 years ago, being an independent contractor was relatively rare and pretty deliberate. Now that’s just being registered with Uber, Lyft, Doordash. So lots of people stop becoming “unemployed” and become “independent contractors” due to what is essentially a cultural shift. Being an “employed” independent contractor is trivial now, but says nothing about income prospects.
The side job scenario certainly isn’t new, so your point is taken there, that number of jobs “created” always could have been either good or bad without context.
All true
The reason that economists use GDP (probably switching back to GNP in the post Trump world) is because it is easily available and easily sniff tested.
A better measurement would be appreciated if made available
It’s unclear how such an action would help lower U.S. borrowing costs.
Spoiler: it won’t and everyone knows it. Pretending Trump is some secret genius when he clearly isn’t just shows where the LA times loyalties lie.
But he played a successful businessman on TV!
Trump issued his demands Friday in a lengthy social media post after a stronger-than-expected August jobs report, which could bolster the case for Fed officials to raise rates at their next policy meeting starting Sept. 15.
In his post, the president exhorted his hand-picked Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh, whom he called “great,” and board members to “get smart” and “BE PATRIOTS for a change.”
“LOWER THE RATE OR I’LL STOP TRADING WITH COUNTRIES WITH WHICH WE HAVE A DEFICIT,” Trump posted. “High interest rates put the U.S.A. at a very unfair disadvantage, and I won’t allow that to happen!”
Fucking what?
Well you see diesel gasoline is at a record high price, so you don’t want people talking about that.
But who knows what this is actually a distraction from.
Not everything is just a distraction. Trump has been talking about Tariffs, interest rates and invading Iran since the 90s. He even took out full page ads at one point in the paper regarding some or all of those topics.
I don’t know about Iran, but he’s been blathering about tariffs since the 80s.
But yeah, not everything is a distraction (from his pedophilia or losing to Iran), this is having a completely incompetent washed-up never-was get to inflict his stupid long-held worldview on everyone.
The voting changes, immagration and customs attending polling places, and monthslong disappearances of legislators
I’LL STOP TRADING WITH COUNTRIES WITH WHICH WE HAVE A DEFICIT
So glad we have so much “freedom” that we have donnie dictating how all of commerce works for the whole country. Meanwhile, the ghoulish cons keep acting like Teh SOSHULIIZZMS is coming for all of your freedoms!
Also, donnie the dumb dumb is one of those morons that gets triggered by hearing “trade deficit”. 🙄
If you have to vote by mail this season take steps to ensure you can get your ballot and get it delivered.
Try to avoid the postal service altogether.
For example in WA state you can print your ballot at home and deliver it to a ballot drop box.
Other states have other mechanisms to get votes counted without having to go to a polling place.
DO NOT TRUST THE USPS.
Reps are going to steal the election anyway. Make necessary peparations.
Nevertheless: Solid advice.
Reps are going to steal the election
They are certainly going to try.
It’s every citizens responsibility to do whatever you can to make it as difficult as possible for those attempts to succeed.
Exactly, they can try, but you better believe we all need to fight this out at the ballot box like our lives depend upon it because if we don’t have this fight now the next fight is going to be way more terrible.
That’s not how this works.
Lol, this is wild even for trump BS. I’d call his bluff and let his supporters see the emperor has no clothes.
Buddy, they like nude old men, ESPECIALLY around children.
lol
“If you don’t shoot a hole in this boat I’ll blow it up”
Okay buddy
Where have I seen this move before? Oh, right

The Republicans more or less always hold a gun to the head of something normal people care about, but that cons don’t really care all that much about. Most of the time I’m reminded more of Martin Sheen in the end of The Dead Zone when they do this.

This particular instance is wild even by conservative standards, because just about all they care about is unfettered capitalism. I’d like to see everyone call tiny-d donnie’s bluff here and see what happens.
