When I need to go to reddit for a niche community, I just go to old.reddit.com in Tor. Haven’t had it fail yet. When it does, I’ll officially be done with reddit.

Dunno what that’s about but I frequently find that sites which block my VPN allow Tor. There’s also a reddit onion site.

I browse reddit without logging in and with an adblocker. From their perspective, I’m a parasite using resources but contributing nothing; I’m proud of that.

It was the next logical step - old.reddit still allowed unauthorized clients to work. Now the garden is fully walled, and soon it shall be paved over.

Bot control.Their site is the old source the website can be read/scraped and with the influx of ai scrapers ignoring all bot rules they might want to try and kill that.
I havent seen the pop up yet, nor checked out the html dom, but i suspect they, like any website, are getting a huge influx of ai bots doing terrabytes and terrabytes of data transfers
I think they’re also trying to pump up logged in unique visits for investors. They’ve been stagnant on those but non-logged in visits have been going up steadily. I think they’re trying to convert a fraction of those visits into logged in accounts.
