this woman beater can piss off
good post
I’m sure his time on league of extraordinary gentlemen made him never want to do anything even near that kind of movie ever again.
Ouch. I liked that movie and always wanted a sequel
Biggest problem with that movie is it’s pacing IMO, shouldve either been an hour longer or gone in with the intention of making it two movies. At the very least they needed to include some pre release specials on the Sci-fi channel going over the history of the characters mostly because while most of the characters come from early modern literature Mina Harker for example is pretty fucken obscure if you haven’t consumed more Dracula or it’s more direct adaptations.
I have obscure tastes, LoL. Actually I found it most difficult to explain the science and technology background of Nemo to the uninitiated - people just know him as the guy with the submarine but the car and other tech were right in line with the character
Honestly I kinda wonder if it would’ve done better nowadays, it’s basically a live action cousin of the Castlevania anime in a lot of ways. Still very cheesy but it is more than capable of taking itself seriously and generally respects the source materials, Jeckel and Hyde not withstanding but they always get messed up.

I don’t think he’ he’d be a good Gandalf anyways
nothing against him, but what we got was perfect.
That reminds me of how Will Smith turned down Neo in The Matrix because he thought Wild Wild West was the safer bet.
Ouch
Honestly, the only good decision he’s made lately was to not appear in the Independence Day sequel.
i’m gonna be honest looking at will smith’s career the good decisions were ones other people made
He would have been an awful Neo. Bullet dodged for everyone.
Imagine all the matrix themed rap songs that were missing out on tho
Jazzy Jeff feat. Powerman 5000
Yeah, but in the third act he got to fight a giant spider. Do you know anything about spiders? They’re the fiercest killers in the insect kingdom.
They’re not in the insect kingdom.
They broke in, because they are the fiercest killer.
Touché.
Honestly though, I agree with him. WWW definitely is the safer bet on paper. But safer doesn’t mean foolproof, and the risky ventures sometimes are the most profitable. Making the worse move doesn’t necessarily mean you made the incorrect one.
Have you heard Kevin Smith’s story about WWW?
I haven’t and would like to be enlightened.
You’re going to enjoy this, I think (ignore the titles of the videos, this is definitely what @[email protected] was referring to, and the context makes the bit about WWW so much better:
Thanks! I’ll check it out now.
It seems like my client removed the ability to edit? I can’t find it, anyway.
Regardless, that was entertaining. Thank you for the links.
He would’ve been awful. Connery was good at playing smarmy dickheads, but he was kind of ass any time he wasn’t playing a smarmy dickhead.
This is why is performance in The Rock is pitch perfect.
Exactly. He may not have been a great actor in terms of range or depth of character, but no one else is delivering a line like “Losers whine about doing their best. Winners go home and fuck the prom queen” like that.
It’s hard for me to imagine anyone else in any of the roles. They are all such perfect fits.
Gollum should’ve been played by Nicolas Cage. With no VFX or makeup.
💀💀
Also Willem Dafoe with a bald cap could pull it off.
Or Steve Buscemi
“I’m something of a hoarder myself … but only for this precious ring!”
I’m currently watching the Mandalore gaming video on Ring and this sounds like an Alberich line.
"Mm! You! You … come to me! You come to me because … you’re mine, right? Precious! PRECIOUS! I’m talking to you!"
i really don’t think anyone else could pull off the german neoclassicallism of the role
SC would have been awful as Gandalf to be honest
Could’ve been worse. Could’ve been Steven Segal.
We musht go through the minesh of Moria.
You shall not pash
I’ve never watched this movie, but have seen images from it. I thought this was burt Reynolds this whole time
I didn’t realize he died during the plague. I thought he died during the Lord of the Rings and my first thought was good thing he didn’t take it, for that reason
You are probably thinking of Michael Gambon who died after the sixth Harry Potter movie.
Michael Gambon took over for Richard Harris, who passed in 2002 after Chamber of Secrets. Michael Gambon did pass, but in 2023, which was long after the book movies.
But still after the sixth movie.
He did his best work in Time Bandits.
time bandits is cheating
Mandatory “you shall not paasshh”
A wizhard comesh preshisely when he intendsh too.
Oddly, I’d rather watch the imaginative Zardoz than LotR or The Hobbit. Sorry…
BTW, The Hill and The Offence are two Connery films that are well worth watching. His stint on The Hill, IMO, was his best role.
Zardoz was awesome though. It actually had an interesting world and compelling sci fi ideas. And one of the greatest reveals in cinema! You know why call him “Zardoz”, right?
The gun is good! Penis is evil!
His nose does not fit the role
Ian McKellen wore a prosthetic nose for the role.
Even selective people make bad selections now and then.
You can even be selective and make only bad choices. Ask me how I know.
i didn’t think we’d met

There was a population boost in the town they filmed Zardoz in due to all of the drug-induced revelry that was going on during the making of that movie.
There is a good chance that town is populated with tens if not scores of Sean Connery’s illegitimate grandchildren now.
I’ve enjoyed a great deal of movies with Connery as the lead. I think he made the right choice not being Gandalf.
The name is Grey. Gandalf the Grey.
