I think they both have two motives: they are ideologues (neoliberal, fascist), and they are self-interested. MOST of the time, those interests align - at least enough to cooperate. But when they stop aligning to the point that any loyalty that exists is strained, then things fall apart.
I’ll give Alex Jones one thing. He knows what a cult is. He has studied many of them. He has to save face because 98% of his audience is MAGA.
He isn’t wrong, though, and we have all been saying it for years.
