The word “proud” implies I had something to do with it. I’m glad to be part of the social experiment, by virtue of being born here. Lots of things to like, most especially the promise in the founding documents and the direction that America was going towards over the years, but that the cons work to thwart at every turn.

And I’m alarmed at the direction that Taco is taking us in. Biden had a great economy, and a return to normalcy at the helm. Taco is working to destroy the economy and remove every single norm and dismantle the rule of law. Nothing to be “proud” of in any of that…

I remember having a talk with a vet friend about this very subject. We both mused that it feels like having a fucking funeral for a deeply flawed creature that we nonetheless loved very much, and that is now shuffling around like a grotesque, insect-ridden meat puppet.

What, exactly, should I be proud of?

A nation that is moving backwards on human rights, increasing wealth inequality, and got really “mask off” about supporting genocide. A nation that is inherently dysfunctional and wreathed in corruption.

To give you one example, there where a few million protesting against all that happening. Not sure if that falls under national pride, but it sure is societal pride.

This is the result of the Republican party, starting at least with the Bush neocons, weaponizing patriotism to be a way to slander their critics, and to publicly demonstrate their allegiance to the conservative movement.

After a couple decades now of conservative pundits and politicians responding to criticism by implying their opponents don’t love America as much as they do, or even trying to stifle conversation by demanding everyone profess their love of America on the spot, I think everyone else is pretty sick and tired of the flags and pins and stars-and-stripes punisher tee shirts.

“We love America just as much as they do. But in a different way. You see, they love America like a 4-year-old loves his mommy. Liberals love America like grown-ups. To a 4-year-old, everything Mommy does is wonderful and anyone who criticizes Mommy is bad. Grown-up love means actually understanding what you love, taking the good with the bad and helping your loved one grow.”

Yes, I think of his discussion about REAL patriotism all the time. I’ve had that ingrained in my since I was a child by my hippie parents. I freaking love this place. But it doesn’t come without a LOT of qualifiers.

And Taco and the qons are actively ruining it.

Talked to a guy a couple months ago about Trump being re-elected and he literally told me that “at least we can now fly American flags again” now that Biden was out.

I just stared at him like… what the fuck are you even talking about dude??

Not a citizen, by the way. Wouldn’t surprise me if he was already deported.

Sounds like he was one of the sharpest bulbs, so to speak.

I am still reeling at talking to someone that not only said we can now say “Merry Xmas” again, thanks to Taco (WTAF?!!!), and said it with not even a whiff of irony. While I was still laughing, he said he hopes that Taco will be able to fix the terrible Biden economy.

This guy is not suffering in the slightest. His wife pays for most everything, and he has steady work. Fixed mortgage. Maybe there was a slight uptick here in inflation, even if it was lower than so many other countries. This guy didn’t feel it. But he was standing there and telling me right while Taco was wiping about 20% out of my savings due to cratering the market and thus everyone’s 401K, that Taco was going to “fix” this so-called terrible economy of Biden’s.

Straight the fuck outta 1984. And I know people say “the financial markets are not the economy”, but they are HIGHLY correlated, so that dog won’t hunt. If the market crashes, people don’t care about the S&P are still going to be affected.

From where the rest of us are standing, “everyone else” is WAY too comfortable with it. Inaction = acquiescence.

theres an old saying in the corporate world… ‘whatever you allow to persist becomes policy’

unfortunately, 40% of america are brainwashed to vote against their own best interests with another 30% not voting at all trapping the rest of us in their self-created hellscape.

    • I’ve never been diagnosed with “clinical depression”.

I’m guessing now it would be “yes”.

My country is completely losing it’s shit and even an Ocean wide bidet isn’t good enough to clean the asses of 75 million Harris voters.

Yeah. I’m not going to any celebrations of the country this weekend. I don’t have it in me to be patriotic right now. It’s wild how far we’ve fallen in the past decade. And flabbergasting how much further we fell over the last 6 months.

I never thought I’d literally be stocking up on ammunition over political shifts in the US. That’s what the crazies on the right do.

So, has anyone actually read the 1,000+ pages of the Big Bill?

Because if you did, I promise you wouldn’t be celebrating a time America gained her independence knowing that our government is about to rewrite history just so they can have a big old tax break with the blood of Americans on their hands. Democracy was a nice 250-year project while she lasted, but she’s at her end now thanks to the greed of a few, it appears.

"The car’s on fire and there’s no driver at the wheel. And the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicides

    And a dark wind blows

The government is corrupt And we’re on so many drugs With the radio on and the curtains drawn

We’re trapped in the belly of this horrible machine. And the machine is bleeding to death. The sun has fallen down. And the billboards are all leering. And the flags are all dead at the top of their poles"

    Dead Flag Blues

I’m gonna be blasting Godspeed all 4th of July

The bootlickers literally dipped in pride of America when Trump was voted out. Became more prideful when he got back in.

They have no capacity for critical thinking or competent understanding of anything at all. A bunch of knuckle dragging idiots.

They have stirred up national pride, shame for them that they pulled an Austria-Hungary and are stirring up a springtime of nations. The US ain’t a nation it’s an ideological empire with a disintegrating ideological foundation.

I identify as a Californian first. My US passport holder has stickers of the Californian flag. Many Europeans may dislike the USA right now, but you tell them you’re from California, or they see a California flag sticker on your passport holder, wallet, or phone, and then they won’t be so icy.
