You can’t forgive a company for “following the money”… These companies are run by people and can and should be held accountable. They aren’t faceless automated robots, and even if they were, we are in charge. We are the ones that are alive, we decide where the buck stops. Following the money is a cop out. They make their own statement by following the money, and it’s not a neutral one. Just like “I was just following orders” isn’t an excuse.

I’m not familiar with mlmym but I just checked it out. The layout is definitely different than what I’m going for. I also don’t see infinite scrolling or image resizing, or separate frame for sidebar, or quite a few other features I added on mlmym. That project also looks like it hasn’t been updated in 2 years and isn’t available as a firefox extension afaik. My extension is easy to install at least on Firefox currently, and I’ll continue to add options and eventually make it available as a chrome extension as well. It’s also easy to remove if you don’t like it. I don’t currently have easily configurable options unless you edit the source and either load in tampermonkey/stylus or build your own temp extension, but that is coming as soon as I have a little time to work on it. I’m in school and its midterm week so no promises on next update. Would love for you to try it out though! Just check releases on github page.

I have a psychology degree, and I’m back in school pursuing a nursing degree, so I’m currently retaking human development. Both when I originally studied it about 12 years ago and today, we distinguished biological sex from gender and its social and psychological components.
Biological sex is absolutely real, but it isn’t synonymous with gender. Biological sex concerns reproductive anatomy, chromosomes, hormones, and other biological characteristics. Gender also involves identity, social roles, and cultural expectations.
Children begin learning gender roles and stereotypes through socialization in infancy. According to gender schema theory, by around age three, most children can label their own gender. Around four, they develop gender stability, understanding that boys generally grow into men and girls into women. By around six, they develop gender constancy, understanding that changing clothing, hairstyles, or activities doesn’t necessarily change someone’s gender.
Interestingly, children tend to enforce gender stereotypes most rigidly around ages five to six. By seven or eight, they generally become more flexible and accepting of peers who don’t conform to traditional gender expectations.
So yes, biological sex exists and is relevant to sexual reproduction. But that doesn’t mean the social roles, expectations, and identities associated with sex are themselves biological facts.

I think there’s a broader question here from an evolutionary perspective. Humans are fundamentally tool users, and technology has been central to our development as a species. It’s possible that this evolutionary niche we’ve occupied will eventually reach its limits and contribute to our own downfall, but I’m not convinced AI is uniquely responsible. It’s part of a much longer trajectory of technological progress.
We’ve evolved to solve problems and use tools to make our lives easier. That doesn’t mean technological progress is inevitable, but these tendencies, combined with competition, make it difficult to imagine us ever really stopping. Even if we stopped today, who’s to say another generation of humans 10,000 years from now wouldn’t continue down the same path?
I don’t think this is exclusively about capitalism. Capitalism certainly incentivizes growth and reducing labor costs, but competition, greed, and the pursuit of technological advantages have existed under other economic systems too. That doesn’t diminish the legitimate concerns about how AI is being used against workers.
I also wonder whether our short lifespans make us particularly bad at considering the long-term consequences of our innovations. Who is going to sacrifice the opportunities of their own generation to prevent a possible catastrophe centuries from now, especially when there’s no guarantee it would stop technological progress?
I have a degree in psychology and particularly enjoyed evolutionary psychology, so I think it’s worth asking whether the deeper problem is our own nature, and whether our capacity for collective restraint can keep pace with our ability to innovate.
I know this raises more questions than it answers, but we’ve faced civilization-changing technologies before, from the printing press and electricity to nuclear weapons. AI won’t be the last. Perhaps the more important question is how we learn to manage these transformations when our tendency to create them seems so deeply rooted in who we are.

The evil triumvirate.

Target more data centers please!

FUSE mounts are a thing…

That’s because there are outsiders that they do not move couches for. They get to choose. Judge as you will.

I mean its called priming. It’s gonna be on your mind now, but you may not exactly remember why. Although now that you’ve seen this thread and discussed it you’ve encoded a more negative connotation. So at least discussing it provides more contextual associations in your mind.

Change takes time and we are moving in the wrong direction. You’re giving the “both sides” argument and I don’t buy it for a fucking minute. We didn’t have these aggressive ICE tactics under any Dem, we didn’t have wildly reduced NIH, medicare, and medicaid funding under Dems (including food inspection changes that are working against us). We didn’t have “woke is the cause of all things evil” under Dems (and DEI includes protections for disabled people). We didn’t have environmental regulations wiped out under Dems. We didn’t have our election integrity threatened under Dems… I could go on. All these things are incredibly important but because you buy into the “both sides” argument all you can see are the extremes.

A Fucking Men. Tankies are every-fucking-where in these online political discourses. I got banned from the “USA” community on lemmy.ml for trying to REASONABLY argue with these fucks. I’m done being reasonable when they twist every word and just try to paint you as the bad guy. There’s some real funky shit going on online, I’m just gonna troll and downvote and play their own game right back at them. People need to see how fucking dishonest their line of discourse is.

I’m of the opinion that these doomers are either bots or closet republicans. Democrats have made mistakes but its suspicious that they never talk about the people actually doing the awful things that the Democrats are supposedly not doing enough to save them from while not holding any majorities.

If you want them to do something, give them enough power to by voting for them. They aren’t in control of any of the branches of government so wtf do you want them to do? If they act outside the law they are literally just like any of the rest of us and are just giving the Republicans ammunition to use against them.

Then give them more power. They aren’t gonna act outside of what the law allows them to.
Sure thing bud. The Russians are applauding your efforts.
and wtf do conservatives think of Palestinians? Bacteria? This thread is full of immature low iq group thinking edgelords.
Had to check 3 times to be sure.
