Also from this self-proclaimed “SI assisted” (yes, using Trump’s Super Intelligence term) account:

Americans, you may think this election is about the cost of living.

But I want you to think harder about what’s really at stake.

A dystopia where your daughter gets raped, and her father gets arrested for reporting it.

A world where your daughter is enslaved, beaten over and over, forced to cover herself in black cloth, and forbidden from going to school.

I want you to think seriously about whether that future could come to America.

You hate Trump. You’re pissed off because Musk is rich. You didn’t get richer under the Republicans.

For reasons that petty, you can’t think beyond a three-foot radius or two years in either direction.

Have you even considered that your country could become a hellish Muslim kingdom? That America could end up like Europe?

I want you to think about that when you vote.

Aren’t your families and communities what really matter?

Why would you let your daughters be tortured just to prioritize Islam, gay couples buying children through surrogacy, or groups of women demanding acquittals for people who kill children?

Why are you so determined to put the rights of people you consider abnormal ahead of your own daughters?

Not the rights of minorities. Not the rights of people facing discrimination.

The rights of people you consider abnormal.

    Seriously. Please think again.

TL;DR: Yes Musk is rich, but you should still wait for republicans because voting for the slightly less intolerant, but still right-wing party means gay muslim women are gonna come buy and kill your children.

Xitter link here, luckily many people are now realizing that it’s a propaganda slop account. Which for people still using that service is a pretty big deal

This is funny (in a sad kind of way) to me, because:

      • It’s already a dystopia where your daughter gets raped and if she reports it, she gets swatted
      • The “hellish Muslim kingdom” he speaks about shares more values with republicans than democrats (hardcore muslims are extremely right-wing and in fact the main gripe islamic terrorists usually have is that the other muslims aren’t right-wing enough)
      • I’ve yet to see this hellish Muslim kingdom in Europe. The one (1) Syrian family in my town has yet to bomb anything curiously enough
      • In what universe is voting for republicans going to be in the interests of “your own daughters” anyway? They’re the ones curtailing women’s rights (because, again - they’re the ones who have so much in common with islamic extremists. Just right-wing extremists of two different religions, of course they have similar ideas).
      • I thought minorities were also part of your communities. Also his character is a minority too. I suspect he himself is either American, Israeli or Russian.

Yeah, I’ve seen that fucker way too often on Lemmy already.

      It’s always just:

In Japan, people do bad thing.

In USA, people are polite, helpful, accommodating, and friendly.

It’s literally just nationalism designed to stroke US-American’s ego of how great their society is.

I mean, most posts on Twitter are LLM-generated. Especially blue checkmark ones.

TBH, I wouldn’t post any. I block communities that put too many Tweet screenshots in my feed, as they’re basically always ragebait posted by an engagement farming account.

…I didn’t come to Lemmy for that shit.

Sadly the further down this rabbit hole you go, the less there will be of lemmy to actually see. All the kids do nowadays is share slop memes back and forth. The meme economy has gone bankrupt.

I mean, it’s always been bankrupt, but at least the memes were reposted from somewhere.

The part that isn’t okay is the source being a bad actor. A spammer. That is simply unacceptable, yet posters and upvoters don’t seem to care.

And that’s what I mean. These kids don’t care. They will stop at nothing to give you the illusion that they do, but behavior is a tell- words aren’t.

Just look at how everyone complains about YouTube, then check the numbers. It’s more popular than ever.

Or really, any of the flavor-of-the-week complaints.

Like… Remember when everyone was hating on Rockstar for union busting? These kids are climbing over one another to hand over their saliva-soaked money for GTAVI pre-orders. (Also something they constantly yell at others for)

And let’s add on the fuckton of Facebook accounts that still exist even though we get daily articles about how META despises the LGBTQ+.

There has never been a more disingenuous generation than the recent batches. They just consume shit ad nauseum- all while giving the illusion that they give a shit about any of it. And you can’t directly call them out because you’ll get torn apart by the fact that they need to keep the ruse going. So with clutched pearls and a new sense of victimhood, they definitely deny all of it while calling you a “boomer”.

              Lather, rinse, repeat.

                Whoaaa Nellie.

I don’t believe in intergenerational finger pointing like that. It’s not productive.

Besides, older generations have no leg to stand on. I see everyone from millennials to boomers indulging in the exact same addictive algos, sharing and acting in misinformation. And they have no excuse because they grew up with the “old internet.” Hence it doesn’t matter; everyone, in aggregate, is doing this.

I just meant to highlight the information hygiene problem on Lemmy, specifically. It really bothers me, but it doesn’t seem to bother most users, old or young, which worries me.

I’m not saying it’s unlikely to happen that a neighbor helps a neighbor move, but the story feels totally fake. I don’t think there’s a network of single men who help each other move furniture for pizza that the narrator stumbled upon, or if there is, I don’t think it’s a typical pattern of American neighborhoods. Like when do they buy the pizza? What size? If he didn’t know that the 3rd guy is coming, why did he have pizza for him? If he thought the payment is cash, why did he have pizza for them? Or did they say: thanks, your total is 6 slices of cheese pizza, it’s going to ask you a couple of questions? And then he ordered pizza from doordash and the 3 of them waited about 40 minutes for it to arrive? How did the truck guy get OPs number? The friend told him: hey, I know a guy who needs a sofa moved, do you need some pizza? Here’s his number just call him he’ll totally answer an unknown number.

I’ve lived in different states and it’s the same everywhere. IDK about cities. The only unusual thing in this story is that the guy OP was talking to orginally didn’t show up. And that it’s just a pizza and not also beer.

The other questions you have I assure you that all of it is perfectly normal - to the degree that I as an American iam sitting here wondering how you made it through life not knowing the answrs to those question (I don’t actually mean that, I’m sure you have a good social life, I’m just trying to relate that it’s like everyday stuff, as if you were asking “how are both their shoes tied” and “how did that guy know how much money to give at the checkout counter”)

The pizza is obtained on the way, at the pizza place local to the destination. If you’re moving a ton, the most tired person goes to get it. You try to plan ahead but you also gotta probably stop for beer and maybe gas.

There is no question of size. I honestly don’t know anyone who orders anything other than a Large pie. It’s a Large and if there’s leftovers, there’s leftovers. If you need 10 slices, you get another Large and have leftovers.

You can very quickly just say “pepperoni?” and if you don’t get a “I don’t eat meat” then that’s what everyone’s getting. Otherwise you just get a plain. SOmetimes someone springs for a Supreme or something. If it’s a lot of people you get a mix, or you can do half/halp on one pie. It takes the time to determine this that the phone is ringing while you’re placing the order.

Thanks for typing this out, I appreciate the time. I don’t have a good social life, but what I have, stopping to pick up pizza is not part of.
But you’re description sounds like life and is totally reasonable. OP sounds like a feel good Netflix soap, but maybe it’s the style that rubs me the wrong way.

In the UK it’s a man with a van. Everyone knows a man with a van or someone who knows a man with a van. If it’s a long drive then the man with a van will probably ask for a bit of cash to cover the fuel, but generally the price is some food or beer, because it’s not a job, it’s one of the basic cooperative actions that society requires to function properly, so it’s given according to ability and paid for according to need. The main product of the work isn’t a transaction, it’s community, so none of those questions are actually important.

Wait, is this something to be proud of about being American? There might be a touch of embellishment but those series of events are more or less what happens.

Christ this might be breaking in to a tad of our truck culture too, because it makes you feel as though you’re a special kind of useful when your the guy with the truck that got the thing moved.

But dont worry about the pizza. Didn’t know about the extra helper? Insist you’re not hungry, you just got a couple hundred dollars of work done for the cost of pizza. Don’t worry, there will be at least a slice left for you. It’s a social interaction that is a lot less lopsided than it feels. The sharing of pizza is the commitment to (and quite probably planning) of the next “job”.

I’m the Kevin of my circle. It can happen. You just have to know a guy. The price is pizza. And the unspoken promise that one day you’ll be called into duty when you’re needed.

A world of Kevin’s would be a utopia. Friends helping friends and neighbors helping neighbors because it costs nothing more than a bit of time to be kind.

There’s unfortunately a good bit of political gerrymandering influencing vote outcomes as well. If congressional districts were impartially drawn nationwide, the US House of Representatives would be a completely different legislative body
