That’s just another line item for the American taxpayer. Hardly Trump’s problem.
Crone, grant me the wisdom to understand wtf is going on in this thread…

0·2 days agoOh yes, the Donald Trump Paradox. Everyone else is actually richer than me because I am in so much debt!
At least this turd can take a loan out on all his imaginary wealth. The rest of us have to post some real collateral or get fucked.

Technology@lemmy.world•Bernie Sanders proposes bill to give the public a 50% stake in AI companiesEnglish
7·3 days agoThey already are! The government signed exclusive military contracts with OpenAI to develop autonomous weapons. Half of these AI companies are being propped up with taxpayer dollars in the form of government contracts or subsidies, or the promise that there will be a taxpayer revenue stream coming their way in the near future.
Oh no, not et cetera! That encompasses all the other things!
I think he means the rate of unemployment, not unemployment benefits.
I know, I read it wrong at first too.

Lol you can see where the “I did that” sticker used to be…
Wonder if it was an old Biden version or a new Trump version.
Thank you for sharing. My coworker just lost her daughter to suicide and she has been understandably inconsolable. She’s had an outpouring of sympathy, but I wanted to give her something more than just words from a childless adult who could never possibly relate to what she is going through. I will suggest the ring made with some ashes. I think that will help bring her some comfort.

3·7 days agoOf course Trump as admitted as much that all the machines in key states were rigged in his favor.
Thank you for saying this. I feel like sometimes I am the only person in the world who remembers that Trump said out loud that Musk “knows about voting machines better than anybody”. Like, isn’t that suspicious? I understand that the Democrats ran a bad campaign, but to lose in every single swing state after Trump had already been president once and was grossly unpopular at the end of his first term, there has to be something more to it than just her stance on Israel/Gaza and not running a primary.
And of course, the Dems take the high road and don’t demand investigations so that they avoid comparisons to election deniers on the right that ceaselessly parroted baseless conspiracies throughout Biden’s term. Almost as if it was planned all along…
I want to believe that my fellow Americans aren’t collectively stupid enough to actually pick Trump a second time. I really, really want to believe.

21·7 days agoI’m from the US and if comedy roasts are a cultural phenomenon then I wasn’t aware of it.
Yeah, I don’t get them either. Best case scenario you can have a mild chuckle at the people you consider friends who know you the best exposing how they really see you after being given an invitation to do so and then living with that knowledge for the rest of your life. Worst case scenario all of the above, minus any lighthearted levity, but add in deep-seated insecurities causing you to become defensive and driving a wedge between you and your loved ones permanently.

111·7 days agoSimilar vibe. I’m not fully convinced that any billionaire is truly looking out for working class interests, but Steyer at least has a historical track record that we can point to and use as a benchmark for what to expect. There are no good billionaires, but in a world where more and more billionaires are running for office themselves or backing non-billionaire candidates all the time, he’s probably the least bad of them.

The problem is that as we get younger candidates who were active in their youth online or on social media, the likelihood that you will find a squeaky-clean candidate gets lower and lower. It’s not that politicians of old were paragon of society, it’s just that the dumb shit they did as kids wasn’t preserved forever in the largest archive of human knowledge for anyone to trawl up literal decades later.
If anyone found my old reddit account they’d probably consider some of the stuff I’ve posted there over the 12 or so years of when I was active disqualifying on it’s face.
We, as a society, are going to have to get used to excusing some historical bad behavior in favor of believing that people are indeed capable of positive change over time.
