Typically, modern GMO crops are not designed to use less water, or handle cold weather better. No, they are designed to be sprayed with glyphosate (see: Roundup) and not die. That way, the farmer doesn’t have to weed the field, and corn or other crops can be grown / harvested easier. If they were using the tech for other things, I see no problem with it, but instead, it’s used to sell shit loads of glyphosate and have it sprayed all over the food we eat.
And their safety tests focused on how the chemical interacts with human biochemical pathways. They didn’t test how it affects the various gut flora and fauna we depend on. And I’m wondering if it has anything to do with the increased frequency of IBS (though there’s a lot of potential vectors for that, microplastics being another).
I can understand peoples reluctance to accept GMO crops, but good god we’ve already modified them to smithereens.
