Because it’s cheaper and less time consuming, usually. For strays usually a rescue or the government is footing that bill and only has so much money. It’s whatever is offered really. If they’re your pets you do you, but stopping hormone production helps make male cat piss WAY less pungent.
And keep them inside. Birds and lizards will thank you.
Mine keep going for the rabbits and disemboweling them in my living room.
Fully aligned with the idea but the guy just got taxed 350€ given it’s a female and something. Not cheap to fix cats. And that’s not accounting for the whole « catch them » game; in our area we can get a rental humane trap from the city but they only pick them up once a month or you can drive your price 60km away on your free time. Another tax… it’s all fucked up just to try to help :(

Yeah I mean highly depends on WHERE, but plenty of places will have rescues or people who regularly will trap them for you, get them spayed/neutered and vaccines, and return them to the area. At least that’s common in the states. There are also often places that if it’s your personal cat and not a feral, they do like pop up van spay/neuters that are usually cheaper if you really can’t afford it.
Calico baby. Almost guaranteed another female, and absolutely guaranteed to be a handful.

Get your damn pets spayed and neutered people. If a cat does this with you it isn’t “like” you’re part of their pack, you already are and likely have been for a while, so take responsibility.

Please OP. You do have to wait some time for mama to recover first, and the babies have to be a certain age first, but you need to do this. Look up the time you have to wait, mark it on your calendar. Use this time to figure out how you’re going to safely capture the cat(s) and any housing they may need during recovery.
At least in the US you can regularly find fully free or super discounted spay/neuter services through various charities. Don’t know about other countries, but generally speaking price should not be an issue for this.
Don’t put it off to do later as they will multiply. Cats don’t give a singular shit about incest.
Like it or not, whether they are fully outdoor feral or not, you are feeding this cat and it does see you as part of its pack. That’s exactly why it brought you the baby to show you, and you clearly know it.
I grew up in a house where my parents did not take spaying/neutering seriously until they had already gotten an explosion of two (or three? I tried to stay away from home and have blocked some out) litters of kittens.
I love cats. It was awful, and there were too many cats to try and properly care for any of them. Litterbox training? My parents were too busy/lazy to do it properly. Augh.
I’m really trying to be strong about this but I think I have some actual unresolved trauma about it. Don’t let this become a problem because you won’t accept responsibility for it. Doing the bare minimum here is easier than you’d think and immeasurably worth the trouble.

Seriously that’s like some of the best entertainment you can get. We took care of kittens for a shelter, omfg that was the most fun you can have sober with kids in the room. We didn’t really need a TV those months.

I had this happen once. It was my fault for waiting too long to take her in and get her sprayed but I felt so bad about the idea of having to trap her and betray her trust to do it.
I did manage to rehome all 3 of her kittens though.
