edit: I swear google has some code that listens to background noise and does this on purpose
Who the heck is watching yt in 2026? ;_;
You’re*
It’s not OP’s fault English is a stupid language with words that sound identical but carry different meanings. I’m of the mindset that so long as it’s legible it is correct. look at Old English. It was much more phonetic than modern English is. Scribes wrote words as they sounded. Languages like English have so many dumb and unnecessary rules as well. Why the fuck do we need capitalization rules anyway? Latin doesn’t have it.
I’m not blaming OP for the shortcomings of the language they use. Just pointing out a typo.
Agreed. Back then, dictionaries were basically suggestions and fiction. People only really started caring about modern consistent spelling relatively recently (19th century), but it’s assumed that’s always been the case. People used to just make up words as it made sense, like colour. Someone just made up that word and now we all use it, but God forbid anyone get creative nowadays! There’s been dozens of both successful and failed “spelling reforms”. Some people just decided on this one spelling and we all now pretend it was gospel.
Then the grammar Nazis come out of the woodwork, as if they cannot possibly understand anything you wrote, because of this one small error. It’s not helpful or interesting behaviour, it’s like pointing out a smudge on an artwork.
Most other languages on Earth have an intuitive way of spelling and sounding out letters, with actual rules, to the point where you can understand how to say something just by reading it. English has no such feature, despite some efforts. Every word is it’s own unique creature with it’s own unique spelling and pronunciation and history.
All the helpful features of English to help you know how to pronounce something have been stripped out to make it “simplified”. Ever wonder why they’re called “simplified English dictionaries”? Because there used to be other kinds of English and dictionaries. Because it spells it “naive” instead of “naïve”. The extra dot on the vowel used to mean that you say the vowels separately instead of smooshed together; na-i-ve.
Fucking dogshit language. It’s my first language, but I found my second and third languages easier to learn and more logical and intuitive. Now that’s saying something.
Also since you asked, capital letters were actually invented by the Romans, as a helpful optional feature to make things easier to read. They thought it looked cool to have Important Things be different.
Getting corrected is how you learn. I often spell words wrong, because English isn’t my first language, but I don’t mind being corrected.
But when to use “your” and “you’re” is actually fairly easy to remember. “You’re” is short for “you are” and is used when YOU are doing something. “Your” is used when someone else is doing something.
You’re sleeping vs. your cat is sleeping.
*wrongly (it’s an adverb)
Can’t wrong also be used as an adverb? Where wrongly is used before the verb, and both wrong and wrongly can be used after the verb?
No.
I mean, there’s certainly a lot of misuse and poor grammar out there that does use it incorrectly, particularly in the US , but it is incorrect to use “wrong” as an adverb.
I’m not sure what your point is. That link appears to support what I said. Are you agreeing?
I don’t disagree but I think you’re missing my point. Minor variations of spelling shouldn’t matter, so long as it’s legible. If someone says dey instead of they, dat instead of that, wader instead of water, why should that be any less correct? I know it’s not exactly an apple to apples comparison but I believe language should be more flexible. So long as it’s understandable, why should it matter? Especially because English has and will continue to evolve in our lifetime. Why do people think in terms of absolutes?
Because we have to agree on a standard. Or else we end up with nobody understanding each other.
Yes, language changes over time, but we all agree on those changes.
If we can just use what we each think is close enough we could end up with: water -> wader -> vader -> voder -> vodar -> voda.
An ad sum pojnt no wun kan ondestant vod ani 1 ses.
That’s not how language works. Language isn’t some absolute. English for example has many dialects, some of which are difficult for other speakers to understand. I disagree with the notion that we all have to agree with changes being made to our language. Zoomers are using words like skibidi, rizz, and fanumtax. Skibidi may fizzle out or it might be adopted by the masses and become ubiquitous a word as water. My point is that if me and enough people decide your is the correct spelling of you’re than it becomes the correct spelling.
“And at some point no one can understand what anyone says.” Funny, you’re (yes, I said you’re on purpose) example sentence looks more Germanic than modern English lol.
In conclusion, let’s not interfere with the natural evolution of language. It’s a beautiful thing to bear witness to.
Dialects and slang doesn’t translate to correct spelling and grammar. Sure, sometimes slang gets adopted in the dictionary, and that is when it is added to the standard we all agree on.
Capitalization between sentences is needed because the period is so small. Or, the period can be small because we use capitalization between sentences. If we changed the symbol for the end of a sentence we could stop capitalizing the first letter of a sentence.
Maybe that will happen someday, but not soon.
If the point of written language is for the writer to communicate effectively, it’s important to follow the current rules, as you have.
It’s really fucking not hard to learn the correct usage. You’re: you are, your: something belonging to or being part of you. You’re isn’t a word, it’s a contraction of two words. It’s so fucking simple to understand when to use any contraction or similar sounding word that there is never an excuse to get it wrong. It’s also mostly native English speakers who get it wrong and part of that is the American educational system being one kf the worst in the world.
It could also be that language evolves with time. If more people use “your”, regardless of what the dictionary says than it’s correct. I believe there will come a day when you’re and your cease to be different.
Shit like that used to bug me but eventually I realized it was a waste of time getting set off by incorrect word use or spelling. As long as the message isn’t ambiguous, who cares? And even when it’s on the border, it’s often clear enough from the context what they really mean (though can be fun to deliberately misinterpret it).
Is it really impossible for people to just watch their dicks (or equivalent) for a few minutes a day?
There are levels of brainrot I hopefully never achieve. Though I noticed it’s become difficult to just brush my teeth in the evenings…
Grayjay works perfectly and has adblocking built-in.
What amateurs still watch YouTube with ads? Every platform has plenty of easy solutions to bypass it.
Xbox/consoles?
Doesn’t work for all but at least for a time firewall blocking of ads worked
In the shower?
Roku?
Playlet. Not the best solution, though. Roku is a very closed down platform.
Thanks for posting this. I had assumed the closed down nature of roku meant there wasn’t anything very useful on its appstore.
Roku in shower? Bold I see.
Explain
I listen to it from my bath toaster
Simply don’t.
There are going to be so many smug dorks in the comments section telling everyone what systems they use to avoid ads.
how smug of them! how dare they recommend their preferred solution to the ever-increasing creep of corporate advertisement on the website oligopoly that holds the content created by the public. absolute dorks /s
OP is complaining of a problem that has been solved
Ya fuck those people, I watch all my ads!
Wtf, YouTube had 15 minuten ads? Pieces of shit.
If I saw that I just close the tab and move on with my life. Lol.
I never got an ad in my life. Praise be unlock origin. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
I’m certain this is false. Forgot to install uBlock on a new machine? Use someone else’s computer? See a billboard sign? And if you’re old enough, cable TV? Sometimes ads are disguised as regular content too. IE burnout paradise city with real ads on billboards. Sports games. Amazon prime is always tweaking shit too, definitely got stopped by a mid show ad a couple times.
I get listening to music in the shower, although I don’t. Watching videos while taking a shower? Maybe while taking a bath.
But, really, you can’t step away from media for a few minutes a day for some peace and quiet?
Suffering through being alone with your thoughts is the first step toward better mental health. Your issues don’t go away if you ignore them, they just get worse. You know this, so make an effort for yourself.
I don’t want to be going through therapy while I’m lathering up my asshole. I wait for the weekend to do mushrooms about it
Newpipe lover here.
Yet another reason to use Grayjay.
Laughs in Firefox.
Laughs in pipepipe
Laughs in practicing mindfulness and exploring the vast worlds of my imagination
(jk I don’t do this, I mostly feel anxiety instead)
(it’s a nice thought)
Ah, yes. Maladaptive daydreaming 🥰
this is why i switched to audio books now. better content. no ads. And speakers are water proof these days
jesus fuck people still rawdog the internet and willingly subject themselves to ads?
never see another ad again: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/
this works on mobile too :3
Also check out sponsor block.
Also, Newpipe for mobile and FreeTube for PC
Edit: Someone in this thread mentioned Pipepipe, a fork of Newpipe with extra features. I had not heard of it, but it’s worth investigating
Or YouTube ReVanced if NewPipe is too confusing and unfamiliar to you.
Morphe is the way to go these days, the maintainer of Revanced pissed off its main contributors and they went over and made Morphe. Revanced’s significant recent updates have been to catch up with Morphe.
It also supports sourcing patches from other contributors directly so there are patches for apps like Chess.com and TikTok on Morphe that aren’t available on Revanced.
not “on mobile”, on android
not on ios because all ios browsers are safari wrappers, per apples policy
