Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders said Monday that he is standing by Graham Platner in the wake of media reports that the Maine Senate candidate previously exchanged sexually explicit text messages with several women while he was married.

Platner, a Democrat, posted a video over the weekend taken by his wife, Amy Gertner, who reportedly told his campaign of the text messages last year. In the video, Gertner decried coverage of the issue as “gossip” and said “being married is hard.”

Sanders, a critical early backer of Platner, told The Associated Press on Monday that he still supports the oyster farmer and combat veteran, who hopes to unseat veteran Republican Sen. Susan Collins.

Did he purchase children from a “financier”? ‘Cause this feels like small potatoes compared to others.

Yeah. It’s juvenile to air this as though it’s dirty laundry.

Infidelity happens in plenty of relationships, and there are plenty of good and bad reasons for it to occur.

Was every person engaged in a sexual situation consenting to that situation? If so this is just humans doing relationships. Sorry if it upsets their Christian ideals or something but get fucked.

Yah… The timing of this is suspicious, stuff like this usually comes out of the woodwork almost immediatly (because you can just search through someones social media and find all sorts of dumb shit), if someone is holding onto it then they either made it up or witheld the info for timing/news cycle reasons, either case reduces the credibility of the “gossip”.

Also, who cares, half the liches on capitol hill that need to remove were on Epstine Island… The bar for family values and puritanical whohash has been on the floor since the Clinton administration.

and how has, literally, anything he has been doing for the past 12+ years not been focused on ensuring that there is a deep, substantial, robust pool of people to do exactly that?

Sanders lost the plot, and I love him but time for him to retire. Holy shit between this and wanting us to hold half the bag on AI I can’t support any of that.

I was crushed when he said the word genocide “made him queasy”. He did change his tune and explicitly acknowledge it was genocide in Sep 2025. So. largely fixed.

But to initially miss on such a morally obvious question was unusual in the arc of his lifetime of achievements. No one is perfect or free of bias, I suppose.
