No joke, heard a story of a guy that had a gun stolen from is car. Lamenting it because it was a expensive piece with modifications to is appearance that he liked. When asked what happened, he left it on the fucking dashboard in plain view. Didn’t even attempt to hide it at the least. Just out there for all to see. I like firearms as a preface, I think they’re neat and do serve some purposes but, the careless and frivolous nature of how we consider them in the USA is one of the reasons gun violence is so high.
On the bright side, if your car ever gets stolen, cops will be really invested in finding it if you tell them your gun was under the seat. Cops generally don’t care about stolen vehicles. They tend to take an “eh, it’s probably already in a chop shop” approach. But if you tell them your gun was in the car, they’re suddenly a lot more invested in finding it.
Of course, because they can recover the vehicle and say they didn’t find any firearms as they take them for themselves.
A lot the world does, however, have to live with the constant threat of being bombed by our military or a military that our taxes fund.
Almost like the violence we export to other countries comes back home to our own culture and society.

glad I live in Canada where if I do this, when somebody nearly murders me in a crosswalk after they blow the stop line on a red light, that the worst that’ll happen is they’ll try to get me to come back into traffic and fight them, but they’ll be too pussy to pull over and park and come over to me.

Kicking or hitting a car that’s almost run you over is a hard instinct to stop. Like, I don’t bang on them or anything in anger, but just the instinct to fling out an arm or a leg to shove it back is intense if you’ve never been caught unaware by it. Escalating to shooting over that is nuts, also kind of nuts that he was in an actual car and not an emotional support truck, which is the kind of vehicle I usually expect the terminally carbrained to drive.

there’s a crosswalk near me that has a 50% historical chance of the approaching driver ignoring the no right on red. of that 50%, roughly 25% are close enough to me that I would say I am in danger and I can reach the vehicle.
I could absolutely have avoided some of those if I just waited for the car to blow the stop line, but I don’t, because I don’t want to live my life in fear, it’s their fucking obligation to stop and not maim me, and then if I hesitate to walk out that just means it’ll confuse other drivers who stopped for me but then see me not going and take the opportunity to blow the stop anyways as soon as I start walking.
