Lmao just make a post that those contrary to the Lemmy propaganda machine and you’ll get the same experience.

    • Eh… I blocked the tankie triad, its very chill most of the time

I think theres a slight distinction, the far-right likes to use racial slurs, tankies mostly just falsely accuse you of being a “zionist” or “genocider” or “brainwashed with western propaganda”, which, I mean, I’m none of that, so their words doesn’t really hurt me lmao.

Tall about religion in a positive light anywhere on Lemmy and you’ll find both extremes aren’t that different.

You’ll get those people on every single social media site, it’s not just a reddit problem, it’s a people problem.

Using the internet should come with loading screen tips for noobs like Reddit OP.

    For example:

You will encounter mean people and trolls, learn how to deal with them (block/report) and stop crying

We can acknowledge that mean people and trolls on the internet are inevitable, whilst also denouncing unacceptable behaviour. If we don’t call out stuff, then that’s a great way for the window of what is considered to be acceptable to slide ever further into hostility.

I think it’s important to try to hold the line, where possible. I’m someone who is pretty good at only engaging in online discussions in a manner that’s productive and/or wholesome, but even I sometimes find that online discussions can make it so easy to slip into needless hostility. I think the anonymous format is a big part of it, as is the lack of context we have for most comments, which can cause people to misinterpret the tone of a discussion and engage in a more argumentative manner than they might do otherwise.

I tend to post positive stuff because I made an active choice to resist that pull of toxicity that many of us feel on the internet. I found that doing my best to disengage from the toxic stuff helped me to be more resistant towards accidentally slipping into vitriolic arguments. Calling out trolls for acting inappropriately probably isn’t going to shame them into treating their fellow online humans with respect, but that kind of denunciation is more for the benefit of the spectators than the trolls — especially if we want to prevent a community from producing even more trolls.

      TL;DR:

“You will encounter mean people and trolls, learn how to deal with them (block/report)”

      Good advice

      “stop crying”

Not good advice. We can encourage people to block nasty people, whilst still retaining a sense of compassion for the people who are being shat on by trolls.

Does reddit allow any kind of content in direct messages? Why can’t they disable bots like that by deleting their accounts?

Reddit recently got rid of their direct message system entirely in favor of their new ‘chat’ system, which overall sucks, but one advantage is you now don’t see messages by default and have the option to ‘ignore’ message requests instead of seeing their content. As for manual moderation, doubt that will ever happen since Reddit is a corporation that isn’t going to want to pay people for that kind of thing.

America has essentially been THE place to flee to if you come from a corrupt oppressive country, and/or are educated or considered a dissident. And once you’re here, you can become an American like everyone else. Period.

People should be angry that one corrupt fucking pedo and a handful of under taxed assholes are trying to take that away. This should also concern every American, since we are essentially the last place to run to for the oppressed masses, yearning to be free. We have no where to flee to.

I would imagine a non-insignificant amount. The Right Wing’s propaganda has so thoroughly associated any social policy by the democrats as socialism that the people coming from dictatorships that promised power for the people with socialist policy yet wrecked the country with kleptocratic authoritarianism flee into the arms of the Right Wing who promised them freedom. For some reason the people refuse to see them for what they are – actual dictators and kleptocrats.

What’s that stat? That 1 in 3 commenters is a bot? I hate that there’s bots, but it’s strangely reassuring to think not all the hate mail being sent to the OOP is from a real person.

According to Kurzgesagt it’s higher than 1 in 2, and according to the Dead Internet Theory 50% is where it begins. The con is that the aggressive bots are almost always made by people for the purpose of attack so it’s still people, the pro is that it’s likely one person’s agenda for every thousand or so bots

You don’t fight bullshit with more bullshit. The problem is people passing bots off as an authentic human response. Doing more of that with a different ideological slant doesn’t make things more alive, just dead with different aesthetics.

Let’s think that through. For that to work we only want the bot to respond to toxic AI slop, not authentic humans trying to engage with other humans. If you have an accurate AI slop detector you could integrate that into existing moderation workflows instead of having a bot fake a response to such mendacity.

What’s sad is she has every right to feel this way. Out of the 700+ people that were taken from California, only a 1/4 of them were here illegally. This administration doesn’t give a shit about your citizenship status… they only care about the color of your skin. Fuck ICE and if you are ICE, I would like to directly tell YOU, to go fuck yourself and roll over and die.
