I ate this meal at the end of 5 days of bushwalking AKA backpacking.

The chips and “butter fish” are accompanied by a wedge of lemon, some tartare sauce and a sprinkling of chicken salt. Also a deep fried dim sim, a calamari ring, and a battered scallop.

Including a drink (ginger beer?), it cost AUD$16.80.

My family and I did a 21k hike over the filming location for Mount Doom in new Zealand a few years ago. We got fish and chips for dinner afterwards as well and I think it’s one of the best foods for after a long hike. That looks awesome e

Also living just a bit north of Victor Harbour you’ve reminded me I should go down there again soon. Haven’t been for a couple of years now.

Those chips look divine… I missed out on having fish and chips at Sydney Harbour unfortunately; had plenty of good meat pies and ginger beer, though.

The non-chips could have been taken out of the fryer a little sooner. However they were all completely good.

Thanks for saying. The photos you’ve posted on your account are much better than mine, I must say. 😊

Best fish and chips I ever had, Phillip Island near Melbourne. Australia knows their fish and chips. And their burgers. And their coffee. Australia’s just awesome.

        I think both are correct

        https://grammarist.com/usage/tartar-or-tartare/

        • Tartar sauce is right
        • Tartare can describe a type of fish meal AND was a French version of what we now can tartar sauce.

And you know restaurants like to make their menus as “ye olde” as possible with over the top descriptions. So referring to a century old sauce is within norms for that craziness.

If it’s the one near the San Remo bridge, I’ve been there and agree. The best fish and chips I’ve had was on the west coast of Scotland. Australia wins hands down with coffee, though.

that looks crazy good, especially after 5 days of backpacking.

were you backpacking in rural areas around your home or did you go a national park or something?

I used to backpack a lot, but never got around to it while I was in Australia.

            yeah, looks interesting for sure.

I really enjoy backpacking and walking and I’m interested in seeing the Australian outback through the eyes of a walker.

actually, I think the second to the last podcast I put out was about walking specifically as a wonderful mode of travel.

            thanks for the recommendation.
