    think you may be viewing Ottoman imperialism through a very idealistic lens.

      I never said I liked the Ottoman empire, but they kept the region stable; that’s like the one thing they were good for. There’s a lot to blame Ottoman imperialism for, with the obvious elephants in the room being the janissaries and the Armenian genocide, but they were pretty successful in keeping their Middle Eastern territories intact and free of armed conflict… until they weren’t.

        I mean, other than the constant rebellions, raids, feuds, attempted usurpations, banditry, sectarian persecution, secessions, and interstate wars, I, uh, guess?
