I was on Reddit for 10 years, and I have absolutely no clue why I was banned. I just moved, so maybe it was because my new ISP dealt me a bad IP?
Anyway, Reddit:
- Has no email, and doesn’t respond to e-mails.
- Doesn’t respond to mod mail, doesn’t tell you why you were banned.
- Doesn’t respond to appeal.
- Autobans any user I create.
- Seemingly doesn’t give a shit about it’s long-term users.
I guess from here on out I’m a… Lemming? Lemmyzen? Lemmy user?
Anyway thanks for having me! Reddit was shit anyway. I’ve been without it for a week now, and my life has definitely improved lol
Reddit is dead.
It’s mostly bots now.
Lemmy will be infested of bots at some point as well. That’s sad but inevitable
If you stay out of big communities, Reddit is nice
its always been bots, but reddit hasnt done this excessive banning ever,.
This is a silly/ridiculous narrative that simply isn’t true.
I’m on both places, and have been doing my best to grow things on the Lemmy side for ~2yrs now, but Reddit is still invaluable to me for plenty of fresh and authentic talk across a number of subjects. Yes, botting may be a problem here and there, and power-tripping mods exist (at both places, actually), but overall Reddit is still a robust, useful site.
Now, do I like forward to the Fediverse growing and attracting more users over time to more and more niche communities? ABS-SO-LUTELY.
But I think we have to make that happen by producing quality comments, posts and communities, not by declaring false victories, nor by making completely disingenuous comments.
Ignore the above poster, it is mostly bots now
Bullshit.
I’ve been on Reddit for 9yrs, and have seen loads of recycled post content, which is definitely a thing. Even for the karma-farmers, though, there’s at least a usefulness in bringing interesting content to new users who hadn’t seen it before. And yeah, sometimes bots will replicate comments in such threads from years earlier. This is also a thing.
But across my ~dozen curated streams I see about 10% of that stuff, and 90% actual fresh content, including actual commenters that one can interact with if one merely tries. (have you?)
So part of my point is this-- if you’re browsing vanilla Reddit and complaining about the experience, then you’re telling me that you haven’t made any significant attempt to set up your Reddit acct properly, up to and including failing to set up RES properly.
And if so, what you’re telling me in short here is that you don’t know what you’re talking about.
I have to completely disagree. I spent a long time building up karma on my account, thousands of posts, contributing to my favorite communities, and one snarky comment on a ragebait post got my account banned by a reddit admin on a power trip. Multiple appeals later, it’s still banned. There’s no sensible reason to justify a site-wide permaban on an account with such a long history of constructive posts for one snarky post that caused someone to be insulted.
Their admins are absolutely deranged and yes it completely ruins the entire website. It’s basically insufferable to continue using reddit. The power-tripping admins have flushed the entire site down the toilet. Lemmy is the best alternative at the moment, and supposedly it should be basically impossible to get banned from all of lemmy. I think the worst you can get here is an instance ban? 513 instances so far. You would have your work cut out for you.
You’re not disagreeing with anything I said. You’re talking about a completely different issue which I’m certainly sympathetic to.
Because I do get the sense that users are more easily banned these days at the admin level. Having slow or non-existent customer service doesn’t seem to be helping either, based on the anecdotes you all are sharing.
Btw, feel free to list or PM me your Reddit account name. I can run it past some reputation checkers to check it out…
My main was vtuber-love. I also posted under isekai-hero and DemonLordDoom.
https://www.reddit.com/user/vtuber-love/ https://www.reddit.com/user/isekai-hero/ https://www.reddit.com/user/DemonLordDoom/
I have filed multiple appeals and contacted the mods using several alts. The last message I got suggested I’ve been banned for “multiple repeated content violation under my alternate accounts” or something like that, which I think means they’re keeping my ban in place because I posted under alts while my main was banned.
But the ban on my main account was bogus. Which puts them in a catch-22. If my main account didn’t deserved to be banned, then I wasn’t breaking any rules by posting on alts.
It seems like they just have a stick up their butt. I have apologized multiple times. I’ve informed them I never plan to post on that subreddit ever again. I’ve suggested a temporary ban instead, like 1 week would be fine. But nothing seems to get through to them. How can they be so completely inflexible?
Ok bot🥸🥸🥸
Most of the posters are bots recycling content from years ago, same post title, image, and everything.
Most commenters are definitely chatbots these days.
you know its done by an AI if you dont get the incident of the ban, like they usually tell you what triggered. Like ban evasion, they usually tell you your previous account did it.
in anycase like many of us, early this year a bunch of redditors was hit by a massive ban wave, multiple accounts each 5+years olds were all instantly banned with the “no-message”. then the massive random shadowbans that have occured too.
i heard appeals can take months before an admin even reads it, i think most get ignored though.
Also if your not using an appealing the original account they tend to ignore the shadowbans/permabans of the new accounts. any new account creation after a shadowban, will instantly get shadowbanned, so dont bother.
they also keep a record of any of your old deleted accounts, if they participated any a sub that decides to ban you, so any new accounts even years old will be banned.
I was permabanned for “repeated violations on my other account”, despite me only having the one account. I have no idea wtf I did wrong, the automod refused my appeal and they haven’t responded to the email I sent requesting an explanation yet.
I was recently on public Wi-Fi somewhere, which is the only explanation I can think of.
EDIT: Oh, they just don’t check the email anymore and leave everything up to AIs. Great.
It’ll only get better, welcome!
on lemmy its much better. if we are banned its because of politics. thankfully i can still post on tech lemmies in other instances. it would be a shame if people could be banned from all the instances just because they disagree with the mods.
“politics”
Fascism (or liberalism on .ml)
the same people on reddit politics, are also the same people on the lemmy ones too, i noticed. try to say every other president solely supported israels expasionism in gaza for decades, they soley believe its unique biden -era only problem, they get mad if you try to point out the propaganda against biden/dems have been enhanced by russian troll farms for a while now, in order to make him lose the eleciton. just avoiding that now.
i got banned from hexbear because i wasnt radical enough xD
I think that’s their sole criteria
Decentralized system doesn’t permit out right removal of an account unlike reddit where wrong speak will get you outright censored.
That system will be down fall of Reddit at the end.
many people discussed on lemmy, thinking thier just culling the numbers to make a read only site, im thinking its that. for one, reddit went public recently, so they need to be attractive to advertisement money, 2ndly they are cleaning house to that effect, behaving like FACEBOOK. its only a matter of time before they go after porn, i think they are targeting NSFW of subs.
Welcome!
Hello: Mod logs
Goodbye: Niche communities…Welcome
Modlog in of itself is a content generation master piece 🤣
I want the ability to vote on modlog entries.
Can be frustrating for us though, especially when you give the wrong rule number lol
The only way to get niche communities is to attract the more people to populate them
Reddit is a joke now, totally ran by lib tards
You’re not going to have a good time in the Fediverse if you think phrases like “lib tard” are a good idea.
Whatever
I don’t even mind that, I have a few liberal views myself. It’s the hipocrosy and lack of free speech that disgusts me.
They don’t allow opposing viewpoints to even exist.
“a few liberal views” will be interpreted by some vocal people here as “complacent in fascism,” so be prepared.
Thanks for the warning!
If I can’t even make an off the cuff remark then this place is no better than reddit. Wtf ever happened to free speech and people being able to take a joke
Free speech means you can make the remark. It also means other people can respond.
This is also true
Exactly
Your political views are abhorrent, noted.
At least I’m not brainwashed by the mainstream media who cover 0 good things that Trump does
Anyone who says mainstream media is just regurgitating idiotic lies from billionaires who have fooled a bunch of morons into voting against their own interests. Sorry facts make you upset.
Facts like the border is secure, men who think they are women sb allowed to compete in sports against women, and joe Biden had nothing wrong w him. Ok
men who think they are women
No one should ever respect someone who has no respect for other people’s experiences, so go to hell, transphobe.
No need to be rude. I don’t agree with Reddit but I will never call them names
Lol, yeah, the pro facist, pro billionaire liberals we hear so much about
I don’t understand the sarcasm. Reddit isn’t run by conservatives. The left is pro fascist and does throw their money around like oligarchs.
I’m very familiar with the situation. I was a Reddit user for 3 years. I have a pet project that turned into a small startup for me. I wrote about it in a suitable subreddit where people discussed startups. In the end, I got banned. It’s unclear why. I tried creating new accounts several times, but I was banned almost immediately. I didn’t receive any reasons for the ban via email. I just got fed up. I decided to look for another place to communicate because I was simply tired of it. I have already switched to Pixelfed, Mastodon, and now Lemmy. No more Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, no more algorithms. I’m happy!
Maybe you were upvoting things that Reddit was finding against their ToS?
I saw something about them previously warning users for things that they had been upvoting.
And, a fair warning, your upvotes and downvotes on the fediverse/Lemmy are public even if it’s not shown to you within the Lemmy interface itself.
Maybe you were upvoting things that Reddit was finding against their ToS?
I suppose anything is possible. Or maybe it’s because I like pineapple on pizza, I wrote about that once too
Banned for having good taste. Right on brand for Reddit.
i think they slightly went back on that, but i noticed. any comment removal either by a sub filter, or by reddit is enough to trigger/flag your account, not even a sub ban. also if your IP suddenly changes to another locaiton, or a different browser they get suspicious. and VPNs are always result in a shadowban eventually.
I quoted a sentence from banned post (I like to hit people) and asked if OOP understands the difference between “hit” and “hit on”. Next day I was banned. No repeal. That’s it. I am so fed up.
Same thing happened to me. I admit I’ll rage post sometimes and sure I might deserve a subreddit ban here or there. But I’ve never done anything worthy of a site-wide ban. But the reddit admins act like dictators on a power trip. They LOVE to slap people with site-wide bans. For no good reason, and I don’t understand it. The admins have turned the whole site toxic, and places like Lemmy are a direct response to their insane powertripping.
Right now it sucks. Reddit is still the most popular forum on the internet. I pray that someday it won’t be.
reddit upped thier filters recently, so the subreddit mods did the same as well, its pretty hard to justify commenting on it now. ive been on subs like LAMF, FACEPALm for a long time, suddenly some of my accounts can comment because of them claiming an increased in spam.
If they auto-ban every account you make, you should set up an auto-dialer of account making so they ban every available username eventually. Then nobody can register, and you’ll be a hero lol
You joke but every username is already in use because bot farmers were smart enough to use some cheapo proxies for their traffic lmao
its all censoring for corpos and instagram/tiktok like video posts anyway nowadays. this place here is so much less rage inducing (by design, the userbase and their behaviour is just a result of that in the end)
I gave up on appeals. Website thinks my accounts were created after a site suspensions. I’ve never been suspended so i can only guess being on hotel wifi triggered it.
