I honestly don’t get the impression that most people on here care about others, care for learning new things, or wish to try and adjust their life to match what the future will need from us but just want to have their life stay the same and not feel beaten down by late stage unchecked capitalism stealing their wealth.
The sheer amount of times that people tell others to do exactly as they do and will also craft ideas of who the other person is to be able to win their argument in their head shows a lack of empathy and care for the complexity of others existence.
I think people do get more conservative as they get older but since there was no money to go around it’s all become cultural and social aspects to conserve and feel a need to protect rather than their wealth. Its still stagnation even if you want a better system to have more money.

Also i think you are fundamentally misunderstanding altruism.
Nobody is truely altruistic. Every reason for being altruistic is inherently selfish (rewards, reputation, dopamine)
The social contract theory says people willingly contribute to systems that benefit them. But if the system they are dependant on for survival doesn’t meaningfully benefit them and are not allowed to change it they will grow to resent it.
I’m altruistic because i know being good to others will create a better world for everyone, including me. This is a selfish reason to be altruistic like all others.
No that is just an aspect that people are conservative about. There are conservatives who are trying to conserve 100 year old ideologies and then there is just being conservative in smaller aspects such as desperately holding onto aspects of your life like Pokemon and Saturday morning cartoon watching.
I’m suggesting that people are holding onto their early life dynamics and not prpgressing or willing to do so.
Also not speaking on altruism just on literally the act of stating that their lifestyle is better and stating others should live that way. Even at the cost of denying the statements of others and their own experience.
You don’t have to give anything to accept others.
