Currently on a very locked down version of firefox but also windows, though I’ve been experimenting with mint on an old laptop in prepration for a switchover.

The FSF member does not use libreboot anymore (not entirely free on some boards for a while now). See GNU Boot!
GNU Boot is barely maintained. I would use Canoeboot instead, it follows the same philosophy GNU Boot does, and is way more up to date.
