Hi everyone!
2025 is here, and I’m curious to hear your thoughts on Voyager for Lemmy.
- What features would you like to see added to Voyager in 2025?
- Are there any bugs or issues that are bothering you?
💜
One thing that would be great, if possible, would be the option to choose what browser opens links. Right now it’s either in app or the default phone app. I’d love to just send articles to firefox focus to prevent all the ad pop up take overs.
Lately I’ve been getting more issues with images failing to load. Virtually every image from feddit.org had issue some days, but today I see random posts from mander.xyz and lemmy.world too. I tested it on another app and they load there. I can also open the lost in a browser to see the image.
Other than that the app is really nice, although I hate accidentally backspacing one time too many and restarting my scrolling from the very top of “all” 😄
Did you test another app with exact same instance and login?
Yeah, here’s a screenshot using the sync app and another using voyager. Both signed in to [email protected]. I noticed it happening to a load of feddit.org posts, and now I notice this was also a crosspost to master.xyz from there
That image is loading fine for me on feddit.dk with Voyager. So I’m not sure what could be causing the issue you’re seeing. Are you on the latest version of voyager.
Wow so many replies with suggestions. Seems like I’m in the minority of people who thinks the app is pretty functional as is and does everything that I expect.
The best way i can put it is that during wefwef days and the early voyager days, I would look out for every update as functionality and polish was getting added. Nowadays, I dont actively look out for updates because the app is already soo polished and functional. I still like the QoL features that are getting added and appreciate them but the app is and will remain great even if development stops today.
Also @[email protected], take breaks and relax - Voyager is great as is
Thanks friend!
When you maximise an image without going into the thread itself (I.e. tapping the image displayed in the feed), if you press the back button, it exits to your instance list
Would prefer if it only exited out of the maximised image
It shouldn’t do that. Are you using the latest version? And PWA or native app?
Okay thats my b
Thanks for the reply <3
I’d like to save drafts and have it connected to the post or comment I’m replying to.
Be able to search my saved comments and post.
Both sound good, although the latter requires lemmy api support I think.
No matter how much I try to convince Android not to, it insists on killing Voyager sometimes when I switch to another app. This happens a lot when I’m trying to find a link to post in a reply, but also basically at random any time I switch to another app and back.
Voyager loses all state and just dumps me in my start page again. This is not fun if I’m replying, to say the least.
Contrariwise, Tusky (Mastodon app) drops me in exactly where I left off.
I’d love it if deleted posts included a link to the mod log to easily see if it was a case of moderator power tripping or just some asshole commenter.
More mod tools are planned!
Honestly, i just love voyager as it is. I’m still on reddit, but use voyager/lemmy like 4x more by now. So i’m sure there will be great improvement ideas here, I’m here just to thank you 💪💪
Thanks for all the work.
- It’d be great if user tags and vote totals were included in settings export/import. Losing those would mean dropping Lemmy entirely at this point since I prefer to tag rather than block most problem users. Tag import is also critical if we want to write a script to import user tags from other apps like Sync or Boost (since it’d just be converting one JSON schema to another).
- It’s a longshot since I’m guessing it’d be incredibly heavy on API calls, but a way to import vote totals from Lemmy’s up/downvote history. Voyager’s vote tracking is the killer feature that had me drop Boost, but it was weird for the first week or so seeing people I knew I upvote all the time at only +1-3. We can manually set vote totals ourselves so someone could write a script to do most of the work outside of the app (especially if #1 is added), but a native way would be far more convenient.
- An option for long pressing the post thumbnail to show an enlarged preview of said thumbnail. Sync has this, if you needed an example of what I’m thinking of.
- An option to change what clicking on the OP or community in post view does. It’s an incredibly minor annoyance, but sometimes on Android I accidentally tap one of them when attempting to open the post.
The tags/votes not backing up is a bug, I’ll fix that asap!
I would like tags I’ve made for users to allow a dropdown to select ones I’ve previously made. For example, I’ve tagged numerous people as Zionists or Tankies, and would like to be able to quickly select that tag for new users to the list, instead of having to type it out and select the color.
Hi!
Let me please add to the thanks and kudos for all your efforts developing a truly excellent app!
Two additions I didn’t see elsewhere (my apologies if they were already mentioned or are otherwise off base):
-
bug fix: occasionally I’ll be scrolling and the app will “refresh”, kicking me back to the community selection pane/start of my feed
-
new features: the ability to view the relevant portion of the mod log by clicking on a comment that has been moderated (e.g., deleted)
Thanks again!
For 1, I did some feasibility work on this, shouldn’t be that bad but there is a safari bug I have to work around. I could implement android only though for now.
Better mod tools are planned
Amazing! Thank you so much for your consideration and reply!!
-
Swipe anywhere to go back would be a nice added feature.
That’s on Github!
First off, thanks for making a fantastic app! Just a couple of niche requests:
- (Likely incredibly difficult to implement) When reposting have a way of detecting that the post in question has been reposted to that community already.
- A hopefully simpler request, NSFW images should stay blurred even when navigating to the comments. Often people like to check the comments before unblurring to avoid any unsightly images. I believe this is done by several other apps already.
Again though, great work! Been a very nice experience so far!
1 - good idea, I’ll have to check the lemmy api.
2- that makes sense, I don’t think that’s on github yet.
I just want to chime in and thank you for putting together this awesome app. I use the iOS app not than anything else on my phone, and I probably use v.programming.dev more than any other website on my Linux PC.
