The near-future cyberpunk setting offers plenty of opportunity for satire, being rooted in this world makes some geography and history relatable and mixing it with fantasy elements does not only make it more colorful and varied, but also prevents unrealistic stuff from breaking my immersion, because it does not pretend to be realistic.

If you have to explain that much about your story, it just means that you weren’t able to show your story (or universe). So it’s either not a good story or you’re not a good writer. After all, we call them “TV shows”, not “TV explains”. And it had strong “it was just a dream/wasn’t real” vibes.
