  • Possible? Maybe. Worth your time? Probably not. If something was making you good money as “passive income” would you tell anyone about it? Or would you keep it to yourself and enjoy what you have?

Most of the people who make those types of videos (hell, most videos on YouTube) aren’t real people; they’re role players trying to sell you products.

It’s ok to do a thing just because you like it. Sometimes doing the thing is its own reward. Just because it doesn’t make you money doesn’t mean it’s not worth doing.

  • It sounds like your issue might be a bad ribbon cable, connector, or some other easy fix. Getting the display working might be doable with reasonable effort. If not, you can make it a:

Minecraft (or any game you like) server.

Steam remote play host machine. Let the laptop do the processing and send the video signal to a lower-performance client.

Load movies onto an external drive. Load emulators onto the hard drive. Use it as a media PC and emulation station.

    Video editing machine.

Either way, make sure whatever screen you hook up to it has at least a 60 hertz refresh rate.

If you stream, a lot of streamers use a second machine to record, manage the stream, run the webcam, etc. allowing their main machine to prioritize rendering the game; you could use it for that.

  • I’m happy to help just for the love of the game.

The data is transmitted via a radio signal of some kind. That radio signal is created by a transmitter. Stopping the data transmission is a matter of finding and destroying the transmitter or its ability to operate.

The exact “how” depends on the make and model, but in general, removing or destroying the antenna is probably going to be the easiest way, but this usually results in destroying all the radios in the car. You’d probably still have Bluetooth, aux, CD, tape, whatever, but AM/FM, satellite, OnStar, and similar would probably be broken also.

If you don’t care about concequences, you can do that yourself with an angle grinder in a few minutes. Hopefully you don’t create any leaks you can’t fix with a tube of blue RTV (yes, color matters, blue is for marine/water).

If you’re determined to keep the other radios working, you would need to do some research to determine how your specific model “phones home”. Most commonly, this is via 3G, but other solutions exist. From there, it’s a matter of destroying, removing, or short-circuiting whatever component controls that radio.

  • That’s one extreme of the story. The other extreme is that he’d been doing it, along with every other business in that area, for years, because there’s nothing out there. It’s just sand and rock for miles in all directions. There’s nothing to contaminate because nothing lives there.

The only reason he got involved in anything is because he was told it wasn’t going to cost him any money. He shows up and starts filling out the paperwork and it doesn’t say what he was told; it says he has to pay (souces differ) something like $6K-20K for an easement so he can dig up city property to access the sewer line to connect to it. He doesn’t sign that paper. Instead, he gets up and walks away from the table, leaving behind the paperwork he’d already filled out, which included his application to connect to city utilities. Since he filled out the application, they file it, process it, and approve it, which is what “allows” city hall to start levying fines against him for non-compliance.

Every other business in that area continued to do the exact same thing as him, but only he was being fined for it. What’s more, if he’d just stayed home that day and never signed anything, there’d be nothing anyone could do about it.

He knew he didn’t understand the system, so he didn’t want anything to do with it. Against his better judgement, he tried to comply. He started off acting in good faith. When he found out the other party wasn’t, he walked away from the deal. He should have taken every piece of paper with his signature on it with him, but he didn’t because he didn’t understand how the system works.

He thought that since he didn’t sign everything, that meant none of it was any good. When he got the letters from city hall about the fines, he did what he’d done with all the mail from city hall for years: threw it in the trash.

A city government, trying to expand its power and control, absued the system to extort money from someone who wanted nothing to do with them. If city hall had just left him, and well enough, alone, everything that followed could have been avoided.
