Exactly this. The human is always the problem.

In May I asked for a raise. Not just asked, but researched thoroughly my position and responsibilities and spent a week coming up with the perfect email stating a figure and supporting it.

I started the job in 2017, got a cross-promotion (more duties same pay) to coordinating smaller projects and suggesting organizational improvements.

I was making the same salary since starting in 2017.

Tonight I received an official offer of employment.

It’s a 23% raise with guaranteed minimum 3% raise yearly, and 4 weeks vacation up from the legal 2, and I’m getting retroactive pay back to last year’s promotion.

It’s far, far more than I asked or expected, but I’m over the moon and probably won’t sleep tonight.

I have ADHD and OCD, which means writing reports, proposals, and even simple emails is very difficult for me in a number of ways. For the last year or so, I tell ChatGPT what I want to say and I work to polish or complete what it gives me, and out comes exactly what I wanted.

I’m not able to do that stuff myself. I’m just not mentally able to do it by myself. I strongly support ChatGPT and will continue to use it as long as I can.

I agree, though, that the data centres are helping destroy the Earth. I don’t know how to reconcile that.
