“The opportunities for financial success are all there, you’re just not working hard enough!!” // “Why are we importing cheap labor to all of our high-paying positions instead of hiring domestically??”
It’s the land of opportunity guys!
git yer own cardboard! Dis is my spot!
New? This one has been a classic for decades.
It’s really not a matter of ‘working hard enough’. Financial discipline, learning trades (skills), not being depdendent on a single source of income, avoiding addictions and expensive habits, etc can play a part in financial security.
edit: I don’t know what H-1B is though.
And the most important part to this equation: a job that pays you a living wage. Which are getting pushed down by importing cheap labour.
You could have read up on H-1B visas before commenting so that you won’t get downvoted for your naive take. I knew about that visa and I am not even American.
H-1B: Skilled worker visa
Also, not being disabled in any way is a massive factor in being able to take those opportunities. Being lucky enough to be born into a stable family wealthy enough so you can just be a kid and study helps immensely. Not being denied opportunities due to skin color or gender helps, too. Et cetera, et cetera.
When I was a Right Winger I believed on the “They took our jobs” narrative.
It was when I realized the Right ARE the elite rich people ruining everything that I left to the Left. (coming out as Trans kinda helped)
The reason they want more H1B visas is to drive down the wages. People like Musk and Trump, in addition to high cost of living is why I didn’t apply for H1B, even though US simply has more opportunities for someone like me than anywhere else in the world. But there is no point in having a job, if the wage is insufficient.
More H1B visas might be beneficial to people like me, but in the long run it could be hurt everyone except business execs.
