A cat is a lion in a jungle of small bushes.

Counterpoint: cats meow mostly just to communicate with humans. They don’t meow between themselves, typically.

So I’d argue they already are

That’s a myth sort of. Cats use a mix of meows, scents and postures to communicate. The quantity of which type is used depends on the situation and circumstances.

Not every cat is talkative yes, but I think that if they could talk, they’ll either beg for food or insult you as these two are the only important situations in which they would deign it worth the hassle.

The internet is full of videos proving this tired old myth wrong.

People just love reposting stupid little factoids without giving them any critical thought.

Anybody who has lived in a household with multiple cats knows they meow at each other all the goddamn time.

Mine would. He would just scream “FOOD” every hour of every day, regardless of if he was just fed.

Cats do talk and happily do it too. You just need to teach them a language you understand. My cat knows how to use buttons and we can have an argument about when it’s time for food (when he insists on “now” and I tell him “later”, along with “no” so it is no, now etc). Some days he isn’t willing to use the buttons and meows, but after I ask him he reluctantly does.

Also check out BilliSpeaks on youtube. She was an older cat that later in life learned a ridiculous amounts of words.
