apparently my package has to be sent to the other side of the continent because rules
Their first mistake was using DHL in the U.S. The absolute worst shipper in the country. You might as well have the package to a random hobo.
DHL in Germany, pretty ok.
DHL in the US: package will be delivered by white windowless van with a crooked magnet on the side. It will be delivered to the wrong house. In the wrong city.
As a German i never expected there to be DHL outside of Germany. Inside of Germany i would say its the best option(fastest(except Amazon) and most reliable, probably 1-2€ more expensive) over ups, dpd, hermes and amazon.
Especially Amazon, we thrown you package on the street, ringed at some random bell in the street and drove away. (But they probably still do more than they are paid for, lol.)
Best thing about DHL is that I can just direct it to a package locker nearby and pick it up from there within a week. None of that being at home when the package arrives garbage, and I get a reason to leave the house and go for a walk.
I know, I’m scared. It was free though…
Are you sure? Or it went to Ontario, California?
Bro, you do not know the pain of having to pay $70 and waiting two months for something to be imported that Australians have
;-;
Yeah, for sure, but that’s not what this is about. At least Australia is actually far away. Phoenix to Vancouver is like just over half the distance from Sydney to Perth and this package went almost three times as far to get there.
Also I think it’s not quite as bad anymore these days, at least in NZ we usually get stuff in a week or two now and although it’s still edd he costs have come down a bit too.
Having relatives in Perth, I know their recent black Friday purchases from Sydney may not arrive in time for Christmas
I was looking at importing some movie posters and half the cost is import, with them not being able to arrive before Christmas
Oh, yeah. I think a sudden change to the Australian shipping problems would literally be the thing that make Americans finally riot.
Counter point. You can buy possum fur clothing with same day delivery.
I work in a natural fibres shop, and if you can get same day delivery, I guarantee you that you’re not getting a good product
Fuck me, this is the first Lemmy comment that actually made me laugh out loud.
If i’m ordering possum fur. I’m flexible on quality.
Furs, wools and skins are some of the things that, if made and treated well, will last decades
Do not skimp on them
Wise words to say when handing your vintage possum garments down to the next generation.
so, if there made poorly they might last years?
I’m surprised they route anything through the corporate office
It was just a guess. I suspect the only international shipping hub in Canada is close to airport in Toronto.
And looks like they have a facility right there in Seattle.
Are you sure the package was physically routed through Toronto and it’s not just customs documents etc filed by the corporate office?
I live relatively close to the two main airports in my state, and yet any time I get a package delivered from overseas, i get to watch it land next to me, and then get driven all around the state while the Postie’s try work out where I live. Love the efficiency.
Well they can’t just take it directly from the airplane to your door, it needs to be processed…
Sure, but the processing centre is next to the Airport, and definitely doesn’t explain the trip to the other side of the state.
And the thing is, I have very rarely had packages get off the plane, go through the processing center and head straight out to me, its just that more commonly they send it 60km away instead 🤷
Then again, it’s not exactly trivial to solve the traveling salesman problem, not to mention all the real world considerations on top such as gathering everything to a central/sorting facility, last mile delivery, packing and unpacking, avoiding traffic/collisions (If applicable), errors, unpredictable circumstances, and so on
I’m sure improvements could made, buuut it’s a tough problem for sure, and it’s more important that something gets where it should at some point, than it getting there quicker
Yeah, its probably a lot more complex, but its still funny seeing a package get within 5km, only to shoot 60km away for a little vacation.
Postie’s what?
Post Dez Nuts. Gottem
