Summary

A critical underwater internet cable linking Finland to Germany was severed in the Baltic Sea, sparking fears of Russian sabotage.

The incident occurred near the Swedish island of Gotland and is believed to have been caused by human activity, possibly a trawler or ship anchor.

Finland is on high alert due to its recent NATO membership and previous incidents involving Russian sabotage and Chinese vessel damage to energy and communications lines.

I’m not really seeing the upside there. You’re basically doing censorship for them. It would mess up their economy, but there’s lots of other things that could be cut off first, if you controlled the entire Russian border somehow.
