It would be one long post if we included weird things from all the fundamentalists. Also its called a nikab.

I am not OP, and I cannot speak to whether these women are doing it for fashion. The way I see it, it’s no different than Buddhist monks wearing some kind of robe and shaving their heads, it’s an expression of religiosity. It’s a person choice, I guess. Like it’s a feminist’s choice to be a homemaker.

That said, I am not tolerant of discrimination based on one’s own religious beliefs. I don’t care if someone wears a nikab or cross or yarmulke, but I do care if they oppress someone else rights based on their beliefs. That shit don’t fly with me

The majority of places that women wear this are forced to. Let’s not pretend it’s something the majority just love to do. Iran is literally killing their women because their women do not want to wear this.

Singling out one gender to cover up so thoroughly has always rubbed me wrong

      Even the eyes…

This is one of the top topics I’d like to see opinions on from a thousand years in the future.

It should be said (beyond it being obvious) that I have Western biases:

If I perceived that countries where high heels were popular tended to infringe upon the rights of women at the same rate of countries where niqabs were popular, I may feel similarly about both. (I realize the planet has a poor track record on feminism.)

Also if high heels somehow came up over the face in a fashion that came across as dehumanizing to me, that’d make me more upset with the pain they cause too.

PS: I think it was Sam Harris who made a point about how “perhaps neither niqabs nor the Sports Illustrated: Swimsuit Edition are the best things for women” (paraphrasing/butchering)

Can’t believe they’re on their 1,414th volume. Getting pretty stale imo but people must keep buying them! Or threatened to buy it at gun point! NOW That’s What I Call Systemic Cycle of Violence!
