They need to end the GOP. It needs to be dismantled. Terrorists deserve neither their own party, nor representation.
I have doubts, but I guess let’s see.
If Democrats fail to secure this and RCV, it’s going to look bad.
The states control voting so it will have to happen at the state level. RCV reduces the power of the 2 parties so it would only be politically viable in states where there is already popular independents or politicians that don’t want to be with their current party (DSA backed Democrats or libertarians running as Republicans for example). Even then, it kinda seems like the DSA politicians are more interested in shifting the Democrats platform than making the DSA into its own party.
It won’t. It’ll be bad, but most of the population doesn’t even have it on their radar
It’ll look bad if they don’t do anything about healthcare, housing, and general affordability
I don’t see what the viable path to RCV is?
The only viable path is ballot measures to amend state constitutions. Any other route is either reversible via the legislature or courts.
They sure as hell had better do everything they can possibly get away with to secure democracy while they have power.
If they drop the ball, the US is even more fucked.
If Texas has flipped blue, this legislation now favors Republicans based on current voter turnout conditions (Trump won the popular vote in 2024)
But, hopefully the passage of this would encourage higher voter turnout since now your vote matters in more than what, 20 states?
I do not think it favors Republicans. It simply favors population which means cities which means more liberal.
Trump winning 2024 was just stupid people mad about inflation, COVID, race, and Biden running gain. Yes they should have been mad about the lack options in the D side. The other issues were all fake. Inflation was solved a year before the election for example.
I think favor may have been the wrong word. My point was that the electoral college will be near impossible for Republicans to capture without Texas.
I think a popular vote favors the Democratic party because, well, theyre the more popular party. But if Texas truly has gone blue, I think the popular vote is Republicans only path to victory.
I agree with that. I also have concerns about the whole electoral process. The work around for popular vote would require us to know what the popular vote is. How does a state even know that in a “certified” way, and if it it really close, there is no way to do a nation wide recount. There are a lot of practical issues with implementing nation wide popular vote. So I have reservations about this.
The other issue of course is the whole gerrymandering thing. The need to really have elections demand a 50% vote either by IRV or a separate run-off election to eliminate spoiler effects. There are tons of issues overall with our electoral system. One big issue is we have a system that empowers 2 parties and makes it difficult for those parties to have any meaningful competition at all.
