Ukraine is considering dismantling its ban on pornography as lawmakers seek to bring a large online adult industry into the tax system and redirect millions of dollars toward the country’s wartime needs.

Yaroslav Zhelezniak, an opposition lawmaker who chairs Parliament’s finance committee, estimates legalization could generate as much as $25 million a year, according to The Wall Street Journal.

He says that would be enough to finance about 30,000 drones.

The sum is modest against Ukraine’s stated annual defense requirement of $120 billion.

However, supporters argue the industry is already generating taxable income while operating under laws that expose creators to criminal prosecution.

A bill co-authored by Zhelezniak passed its first parliamentary vote in July and is awaiting a second reading.

Same reason the US is having problems with conservatives wanting to ban drag shows and have everyone to give all their information to third party companies for age verification. Their imaginary sky daddy told them to be an angry asshole to everyone having fun or minding their own business.

          Porn ban started in 2001.

Probably anti-russian/pro-west backlash, tbh. Lot of pro-jesus laws passed around the world as a way to reject the USSR.

Also likely wanting to curtail sex work in general, as Westerners were going to former Soviet countries for sex tourism.

In fact, right after Russia invaded Ukraine, “Ukrainian women” became a top 10 pornhub search.

Well yeah, anything that’s in the news is gonna end up on a porn site. Its like how trans porn trends in right wing states: it’s not cause right wing states are secretly horny for trans people, it’s just that a certain percentage of people treat pornhub like google. Just so happens that Fox News talks about trans folks a lot. Talked about Ukraine a lot back then too.

Curtailing sex work in general, yes. Lots of conservative Orthodox folks over there. Russia too. They’re basically the same people. That border used to feel like Schengen before Schengen.

The local ‘OF stardom’ won’t register, or will just move abroad. The practice of their craft is not bound to any single location.

Ukraine is not a serious country, nor are it’s leaders serious people.

What bar do you set for a country to be considered serious? Because I dont see Ukraine trying to rename the Black Sea to “Lake Ukraine”.

i’ve changed my mind since then, and yes, i was cringe at the time

              I ctrl+f’d “world”

.ml is broadly incapable of not insulting world on a regular basis, so it was a pretty easy bet.

“on a regular basis”, and the latest example you can find is from a month ago, and i don’t even do it anymore

doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense to me

I was talking about ml as a whole, in a general sense. Not you specifically. But fine.

Calling it reddit.world is basically the same shit you said a month ago, so pretending you don’t instance shame anymore while still doing it is pretty cringe.

Also nitpicking people while (deliberately?) misunderstanding their comments is very much like ml, so there’s another generalization you fit perfectly.

You seem to have made a conscious choice to join and stay on .ml. you’re more than welcome to do that but don’t be surprised when people react negatively to some of your other server members’ tankie comments.

that’s not the problem. the problem is that a lot of y’all pull out the .ml card when there’s not even “tankie things” being discussed and completely disregard them because of the instance because apparently “.ml = tankie = wrong on everything”

and i’m not changing instances just because of some ridiculousness from people that are acting in bad faith anyway. i want to access both the “normie” instances and hexbear which both have a lot of cool people but unfortunately most liberal instances are scared of hexbear’s differing political opinions

Remember the first couple of days of the invasion where the Russian convoys were backed up for miles because the vehicles were running out of gas? That was funny.
