Where I come from we call them “city slickers”.
“until it happens to affect me, i’ll shit on everyone else” - old people
Trump’s support has fallen by another 0.1% this month! It will be soon.
Here are some approval ratings for context:
- Trump: 39.5%
- Merz: 14%
- Macron: 27%
- Starmer (just before resigning): 23%
Trump’s lowest ever approval rating in RCP’s average was 37% (Dec 2017), which was around the time it was revealed to the public Trump aided the Russian military in attacking US targets.
For context Germany (Merz) isnt a 2 Party-System. Basically we have 4 Major ones currently (afd, spd, cdu, green) and a few minor ones (left, left but pro russia, libs). With the major ones usually getting double digits % and the minor ones barely make it over 5% which is the baseline to participate in parliament. There are also very small parties listed as “misc” getting 10-20 of votes but not participating in parliament. Imo this 5% barrier and ignoring 20% of votes is a problem.
Anyhow, if the votes concluded its normal that multiple parties form alliances and agree which policies they want to implement to get over the 50% threshold. Mostly dropping anything the voters wanted and implementing stuff rich people want under the blanket of “finding compromises”.
While 14% is really bad it’s also just harder to get everyone behind you in such a plural political scene. Also Merz said stuff to insult about any worker. But the policies are particularly bad for workers yet the (self attributed) workers party SPD agreed to these policies. So Merz is problematic but it’s 2 whole parties that are problematic and outright lie during elections.
Finland also has a multi-party system. Our current government is an alliance of a right-wing party, an even more right-wing party (now with verified nazis) and two small fillers that are now also right-wing parties. Hooray for democracy.
For context Germany (Merz) isnt a 2 Party-System. (sic)
Sure, that’s true. Angela Merkel’s approval rating, however, reached as high as 77%.
Imo this 5% barrier and ignoring 20% of votes is a problem.
I am also not a fan of the 5% threshold. If, as opinion polls now suggest could be a real possibility, the AfD manages to gain an absolute majority with less than 50% of the vote in Saxony-Anhalt, it will be more than a problem but a full-fledged constitutional crisis.
Sure, that’s true. Angela Merkel’s approval rating, however, reached as high as 77%.
that mostly is a question of how the question is being asked, like you could ask merz approve/disapprove, or does he do a good/bad job…
but for merkel in regards to her doing a “good” job… suprisingly many people thought that, see https://www.statista.com/chart/23144/merkel-opinion-polls-since-2005/
and as far as i can tell, the “14%” number is voters from another party’s approval rating of merz, see https://min.news/en/world/1507853cbdd8c108c09a91cd4c3a9850.html
The support rate of the Union Party dropped to 27%, and the support rate of the Social Democratic Party dropped to 13%.
which would make a lot more sense.
but the fact remains, that merz is quite unpopular due to his political agenda, and him opening his mouth
What y’all need is Count Binface!
we have Martin Sonneborn from Die Partei, they fill the same role, and also had (have) seats in the european union https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die_PARTEI
Thanks for that info.
I know almost nothing about German politics. Is rebuilding the Berlin wall something people actually want?
not seriously… it is meant as a jab at people complaining how back before the reunification everything was better (east and west alike), and the joke that it will create a lot of jobs :D
and “the wall” does not only mean Berlin… there were walls, fences, barbed wire all across the border between west Germany and the gdr
and if you compare binface and die partei… the “mandatory” knoppers (kinda like a sweet snack bar) break i would liken to the 99flakes for 99p from the bin :D
I like the guy and i enjoy his humor, but if you look at his policies it really isn’t what anybody needs
so you dont want him to build at least one council house (more than any other party, probably)
Do these mean anything compared between countries?
They mean whatever you want them to mean.
Obviously, a different electoral system will affect the approval rating of politicians. Nevertheless, I think it illustrates the deeply servile attitude of Americans towards their politicians, especially considering none of the other examples have had scandals anything like the 100th-worst scandal of Trump, and while I don’t agree with the politics of any of the others, one could at least make the case they were trying to run the country.
I think it illustrates the deeply servile attitude of Americans towards their politicians
i do not think that this assessment can be made…
but the statistics can be compared to their own earlier stats, and that also paints a bleak picture for trump
Does it? He’s been around the 40%-mark throughout most of his first term and the current term so far. I don’t think there is a reason to expect his approval rating to suddenly crater, unless a sex tape with him and Hilary Clinton were to be uncovered.
yep… and the 40% were already the lowest rating in history iirc… so it just shows that he is doing worse now
Definitely not the lowest in history - Nixon hit far lower ratings, despite doing a far better job and being hit by far fewer and far less severe scandals.
i see… you seem to be right about that…
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_approval_rating
but there are still two more years of war against iran under trump which will undoubtedly will push his approval even lower
Not really, no, considering the systems aren’t a match either.
The guy would probably vote for trump again if given the opportunity
Or at best, just not vote.
This should be encouraged. It is a useful tactic, and you can tell this because it’s the tactic they use on us. You see all the things about not voting for a Democrat? Those aren’t people abstaining from voting for moral reasons (at least originally, but it is spread by people who buy the message). It’s spread because it keeps people from voting who would solidly be voting Democrat.
Listen, I’ll take disengagement at this point (from former maga).
Just don’t fall for inevitable voter fraud that comes after.
“I hate Trump, but it’s better than the Demon rats!”
Ranchers are rich.
Not trump golf club rich apparently. They are the new middle class hehe.
There’s a whole other category of rich these days. Most Ranchers still have to rent their private jets.
“Rich” means your money works for you.
Rich people are terrified of the faucet being turned off.
Wont matter a lick if they dont go out and reverse that fucking vote.
Yes they just need to press Ctrl+Z.
??
This is easy to fake, but I think it is happening. They’re spamming Truth Social with bots to drown out the dissent now. That’s not good for them.
It might be more about the dissent rising in the right-wing media ecosystem than people waking up ontheir own, but the dissent in the right-wing media system may be driven by falling viewership, so maybe it’s the whole thing collapsing in unison. Last poll I saw had him down to 33% now.
I occasionally lurk on patriots.win, and the comments over there have become more skeptical, and now include some laments that their kids have stopped supporting Trump. I don’t see any of them flipping to vote Dem the next election, but I have some optimism they will stay home and not vote at all.
Please oh please oh please oh please oh please (repeat until november)
Only when it hurt them personally… And then forget when a promise is made to hurt others.
I didn’t think the leopard would eat my face!
“Trump is losing the room” About fucking time. Although I really hope many of those farmers go under along with him. Americans deserve to hurt for this.
He’s giving the room away because he no longer needs it. He’s entrenched and he’s got his gestapo.
s…so he’s saying it wasnt worth getting poor and broken just to pown the dems? like maybe his best interests in his vote were a little off?
He rapes children, that’s where every “debate” with a trump supporter begins and ends with me lol. Fuck beed prices or foreign policy, trump belongs in a cage where he can no longer hurt children, period.
He is losing his rubes one by one. Who cares? These morons will support the next criminal they are told to support until they realize it personally affects them negatively.
correction: they will abstain 1 cycle, then because the democrat didn’t fix the destroyed mess Trump left America in immediately, they’ll say “well Republicans are better for the economy so…”
The average American has the memory of a goldfish evidently.
Maybe if the Democrats were demonstrably different from the Republicans, our memories would improve.
I mean Biden passed so much legislation while having a razor-thin majority senate, it was actually crazy how much he got them to agree to. Some if these builds had every single democrat vote, and 10% of Republican votes.
It’s also crazy how bad the bills are now that they can’t get the majority Republican senate to pass most of the ones proposed, and democrats are vastly voting no. Some “”“”“democrats”“”“” being like Fetterman doesn’t mean the Republicans aren’t being literally evil demons while democrats are generally trying to make things better.
Biden’s failure to prosecute Trump is a Republican position. His AG was a Republican who followed a Republican agenda. Biden’s failure to even address the SCOTUS stacking issue is a Republican position. Biden’s foreign policy deference to Israel’s interests is a Republican position, and DNC proxies from Schumer to AOC attacking progressive demands to stop arming an ongoing genocide as anti-Semitic and anti-American is Republican as fuck. Biden’s pardoning of his dip shit, openly corrupt son is so Trump-coded that I do not blame normal Americans for being fed up with both parties.
I will continue to vote 3rd party until the DNC is reformed.
I mean some of that stuff yeah, a lot of it would require violating norms though which democrats are terrified of, while Republicans just do whatever they want even if it’s clearly not what was intended, like delaying a supreme court pick until a republican is elected. Trump was being prosecuted but Americans elected him as president so all of them were dropped immediately :/ I think the Biden pardon was in preparation for Trump going after hunter with the full weight of the DOJ, but even then I don’t really approve of it.
I agree it is disappointing that democrats are so timid in that regard, but to me it’s like someone kicks a dog, and the other person says “hey don’t kick that dog wtf” but doesn’t stop them. These people aren’t the same and aren’t equally evil, and one will keep kicking the dog any time they’re elected, and the other tries to help the dog 8/10 times and kicks it 2/10 times. Just going off bills passed you can see the positions on immigration, big business, corruption, lgbtq+, everything besides Israel. One side has actual literal demons and one has people who do some things wrong.
Garland dragged his feet on Jan 6 charges, prompting Republicans who had previously voiced support for prosecuting him to regroup and change tactics, allowing the process to drag out until the election. Why did Biden appoint a GOP AG that was never going to be aggressive? It could be classified as a mistake, but it was completely foreseeable.
As for Biden’s immigration push, the bill Trump killed by telling the GOP not to support it in order to deny Biden a “win” was awful. It was everything the Republicans wanted, and Dems didn’t even include DACA protections, sacrificing immigrants once again to try to “own” the other party by demonstrating they are not interested in passing laws, something that everyone who is paying attention already understands. Biden also gave away a bunch of basic things in his environmental decisions. I mean, why allow drilling in ANWR? Who was that for? Even the things people are pointing to as a reason to have supported Biden are filled with poison.
You see a larger distinction between the parties than I do. I see republicans boiling puppies alive while Democrats stab them. Yeah, there is a difference, but not a demonstrable one.
Another thing you’re missing is James Comey publicly calling out the investigation into Hillary’s emails, which is completely improper, just so they would seem less biased to the Republicans as if they would ever not say it’s biased. It’s disgusting.
All of that being true, the Republicans are being literal actual demons. Calling trans people mentally ill women abusers and rapists, dragging American citizens out of their homes and locking them up for weeks or deporting them, they would literally make gay marriage illegal again if they could. Part of why roe v wade was reversed is because the Republicans refused to vote on Obama’s supreme court pick, which is extremely improper and denying the constitution’s intent. Massive tax cuts for billionaires (by cutting children’s cancer research WTF), canceling all ev tax credits, canceling huge solar farms, removing protections for parks and tons of other environmental protections. I could go on for hours, it’s just seriously unreal how evil they are.
Same old story. Only once they are personally impacted, then they give a shit.
Thats true to varying extents for virtually everyone.
When you’re broke and can’t afford to take a week off of work because it could mean ending up homeless you’re a lot less likely to go spend a lot of time protesting an innocent stranger being shot dead in the street than if that innocent person had been your brother.
No he’ll vote for trump again if he could. Rural people are brain dead
In the name of probably quite a few rural people: fuck you
As a different rural person, you completely miss the point. I agree with them, fuck rural people.
Am rural, not brain dead enough to vote right wing
