also some doctors are jaded asf, they ignore/balk if you symptoms at the time doesnt seem severe enough, if they see a couple times in a row they become frustrated and annoyed with you.

    • I want a doctor that became a doctor because they wanted to help people, and not because of the money and/or their parents riding their ass to become one. Also they graduated with straight As. Nobody wants the doctor that barely passed with Ds.

Fascism in Italy had a lot more to do with nationalism than leftism, ultimately it wasn’t really a leftist movement at all. I’m not sure if you’re aware of the current state of the US but we already have an ethno-nationalism problem here, and it’s exactly the thing we’re trying to fight against.

Ok since y’all want to pick fights without trying to understand: fascism was a reaction to the growing leftist movements. It’s called reactionism because that’s what it does. Killing a few assholes won’t solve anything except give rise to some variation of this.

The foundation for change like this is a cultural shift, otherwise all you’ll get is some more repression.

They also have the biggest and most well equipped military in the world. I dont see it going well for the average citizen there. You’re going to need a LOT of help for any type of resistance too. I don’t think the average american has access to things like tanks or armored vehicles either. Maybe drone warfare would happen? Not a good outlook.

Now if you could somehow convince them all to stop working and make the economy come to a halt, that might make the elite class worried and be forced into reaching a resolution without violence. Doubt it could ever be that easy or simple though, and is just a pipe dream at this point. Americans might be screwed forever if they can’t work together or agree on anything at all.

Way worse, they are limited to two parties with the electoral collage system. Not just effectively but in law and policy.

Getting votes and getting power are not the same thing. There is no path to president for any party outside of rebpublican or democrats. The electoral college of the states stops any 3rd party from holding any power at a federal level. The last time there was even a chance was the bull moose party and even Teddy at the hight of his popularity could not overcome the two party system back then, and they have since tightened the system down.

I’m gonna need you to point out very specifically what law prevents the libertarians from gaining power and presidency if they get enough votes. I don’t see how the electoral college stops them, or any third party, gaining power with enough votes

Oh this is just one of many issues for which the public disagrees with the politicians. They do not work for us in the slightest. They work for the rich. This has been a known fact for decades. Even the supposedly good politicians capitulate for unity and soften “eat the rich” to “tax the rich”.

Now they’re just seeing how hard they can push before people fight back. With any luck, they’re just as stupid as the voting public.

I don’t think the freedom part is accurate, but the propaganda certainly is. The news tells them what to think and they don’t try further. They are convinced the United States has the best healthcare in the world, so nice, it cannot be put into a more affordable model without becoming unusably bad. They believe the Magic Market has created the absolute best and cheapest option out there, and the government can only mess that up. Individually, to those who use it, you almost always get complaints as we find ways to make it MORE inaccessible and MORE expensive (eg, concierge doctors), but even those people believe this is the best and cheapest way to do it. They themselves just got unlucky for their personal and not unique situation. The news told them so.

Where I am in Canada we do have problems with wait times, and many people can’t find a family doctor. But it wasn’t always like this. Successive Conservative provincial governments have cut healthcare funding again and again, trying to force people into private for-profit healthcare. It’s the same story in the UK: public healthcare has been undermined by every government since Thatcher’s in the 1980s, and the NHS is not what it was.

Both are still better than the US system though, even after all the cuts. I usually have to wait about 2 weeks to see my doctor unless it’s an emergency. Emergencies can mean an hours-long wait at the hospital. I was recently admitted after an emergency and needed surgery and follow-up examinations. I’ve had an MRI, EKG, ECG, and a whole bunch of other tests with specialists, and more surgery. The care has been very thorough and the doctors excellent, and I have not had to worry once about costs.

Nah, I disagree. The idea of anything medical being operated or owned by private institutions is absurd in and of itself obviously anything created from that situation is going to be awful and attract the worst of us. There was never any situation where it could work.

The survey that the article is based on seems pretty fishy to me. It’s conducted by some financial services company that is mostly involved in selling financial products, not doing research. The methodology section is pretty threadbare and they don’t provide the survey data itself.

The figures are also way out of line with more reputable research organizations like the KFF which estimates that 17% of Americans delay or avoid healthcare due cost.

Is 17% still really high and an unethical travesty in the wealthiest country on earth? Yeah. But there’s no way that 92% of people are skipping the doctor due to cost. Just as an example, the top quintile of earners in the US make more than 300k per year. I doubt that anyone in that group in delaying or avoiding healthcare due to costs and yet the survey would mean that a good chunk of them are.

I guess there’s also different levels of “skipping”. If I was an American, I’d be skipping it unless I’m deathly suffering, whereas here I’d go if it’s sufficiently debilitating.

or people also s kipping because thier doctors are doing the bare minimum, or half assed with an appointment, and then becoming annoyed with them, and the patients wait it out if thier symptoms improved, because going to doc would result in the same lame thing.

I don’t know any specifics other than they’re trying to make sure health care costs go up until only the wealthy can ever get medical assistance, that the poor can’t get any kind of help with affording those costs, and that as many lower income babies as possible die from diseases we can easily vaccinate against as possible.

And to make sure there’s no such thing as gender affirming care for trans folks, so that Republicans can feel safe raping whatever child or adult they pick out without having to worry it might make them gay.

The survey showed that over nine in ten (92%) of insured respondents had delayed or avoided medical care because of concern about cost.

But the methodology seems wonky indeed, 1507 should be a decent sample size for statistical purposes. But half of the respondents are self-employed and only 1% is unemployed, which explains the “average out of pocket per income level” section, flying all over the place.

But 92% of insured, having delayed medical care is a massive finding.

Although the methodology makes one raise eyebrows, for how they’re able to include income brackets of “0$”, as that at most seems to be 15 respondents.

Addition, at a second look they claim .5% are in the no income bracket. Which is 7/8 respondents. Why would they even include that section then?

This sub needs significantly better fact checking and moderation. This is obviously a nonsense article with a nonsense number with a % sign after it.

Brits love to complain about the NHS, and rightly. After 14 years of right wing governments underfunding it it’s on it’s knees.

However if someone tried to replace it with an American style system we’d make the way the French protest look tame.

Sorry but I doubt it. Brits are really not good at standing up for themselves. They are replacing it with an American style system, just a little bit at a time. In the last 30 years it’s come about half way, and it might take another couple decades to really finish the job, but I think it’s likely they’ll succeed in the end.
