Reading books about how to behave in social settings was very effective in reducing my social anxiety

“How to Make Friends and Influence People” is a classic that has a lot of examples. I listened to the audiobook

“How to win friends and influence people” is a great book. I can also recommend How to Talk to Anyone: “92 Little Tricks for Big Success in Relationships” by Leil Lowndes

people like to recommend that book but its pretty bad advice for autists in my opinion. its way too vague and doesnt really lay out a central underlying thesis of human socialization, instead relying on the reader already having a basic grasp in the first place. we’re all different but i find having an overarching theory to fall back on much more useful than a loose bag of recommended actions.
