If anyone’s read Robin Hobb’s Realm of the Elderlings series, this story reminds me of when one of the characters, Molly, fends off King Regal’s lackeys by convincing them that she has the power to telepathically control bees and threatening to smash a hive and sic the bees on them.
So how… How do you command your beehives?
Bees will go after dark, moving objects. Similar to police uniforms.

Fun fact the jury nullified on her felony counts.
Prosecutors had initially charged Woods with seven felonies, each of which were nullified by the jury. Instead, she was found guilty of four misdemeanor counts of assault and battery, as well as two counts of reckless assault.
