I’m looking to get into a dry herb vape as a better alternative to prerolls. All I see online is people lavishing praise on them and real studies saying they have health benefits. Plus buying straight flower and grinding is cheaper.
Do you use one and if so do you have a reco? I’ve been leaning towards the g pen elite for a not astronomical price but decent looking portable build.
People love to hate on the dynavap. But that and the wand is my daily driver.
I have mighty and my only gripe with it is the small chamber that can only fit like 0.3 grams at once. Other than that it’s been great. Not my preferred method of consuming weed but definitely less bad for you and allegedly more efficient too.
Edit: oh and dynavap too but it can fit even less weed in it.
I’ve tried an expensive one and a cheap one, neither worked the same for me as just combustion or concentrates. I’d have to completely reset my tolerance if I wanted to use one regularly so I gave em away.
People constantly recommend these things like they are the best things ever but my experience is the same as yours, they just did fuck all for me unless I sat the toking on the thing for what seemed like hours. Even then the high wasn’t as good in my opinion and didn’t last as long.
Give me a bong any day of the week, thanks.
Give me a bong any day of the week, thanks.
Run a terpcicle through a bong and tell me it did fuck all
If you’re smoking 1g joints and dabbing, no shit a <0.1g portable chamber is too small. Fill any desktop with a gram and you’ll get absolutely blasted.
So many of those words mean fuck all to me, I don’t live in a country where this shit is legal, I buy weed, I smoke weed.
Juste read some reviews, watch some videos and pick one. There is a learning curve, even from going from one vaporizer to another, but hang on. The flavor and high are so much better than combustion. I will never ever look back. Also, you can make oil with you AVB if you want to.
I tried using one for a while. As everyone says, I pretty much doubled how long I could make weed last.
Downside: The high is more subtle compared to a joint(/spliff) which has a more noticable “hit”. I also noticed that instead of smoking a joint with tobacco, I would vape and immediately smoke a cigarette afterwards to get that unhealthy feeling in my lungs I’ve been craving. I barely smoke pure tobacco anymore so it might be different for me now but just as I noticed with hash in a pipe, I find the sensation of smoking a joint to be enjoyable somewhat more than the effects it seems.I think youre just addicted to nicotine
same, lighter high and you kinda “miss” smoking. But flavour is better and smell too, at least with mine
The mighty was the only one I found that worked efficiently but still struggling not to miss the smoking sensation from prerolls
I got a Planet of the Vapes Lobo last year and it’s been really nice. The battery is replaceable, and you can change out the mouthpiece so you can hit it straight or use it with a water pipe. The temperature control is very precise, and that makes it easy to save up the toasted herb for use in making cannabutter later. So: pretty inexpensive, versatile, and let’s you enjoy your herb twice.
I’ve used dry herb vapes for over a decade at this point.
I first used a GPen but then realized it was overpriced for what it did and so many others do so much better. The G Pens are all about branding.
There’s a cult online that will try and tell you Dynavap or nothing at all. I own a Dynavap and it’s full of shit. It’s the dry herb vape equivalent of microbrews. Niche, more awkward, but can be a much more unique experience. If you like constantly refilling a blow torch to heat your weed up, this one’s for you.
If you want a good dry herb vaporizer, anything by Arizer is great, anything by Storz & Bickel is great (but expensive).
I’ve got a dynavap.
It’s ok, the high is different to smoking, very clean.
Don’t really use it out and about because it kinda looks like you’re smoking crack to the uneducated observer
I switched to a vape about two years ago after realizing my smoking habit was doing my lungs in (I’m otherwise a relatively healthy person and noticed during my runs/walks that my breathing was too badly affected).
Vaping seems completely harmless in comparison, it feels warm, smooth, super flavourful,… bit like standing over a freshly made cup of tea and breathing in. I own an Arizer Solo II, it’s a bit bulky and ugly but it works very well.
That being said I also dropped vaping since a year or so, good herb is hard to find over here so I order thc gummies from the nearest island and it works wonders for me.
If I had the money, I would buy everyone I know a Boundless Tera.
I have a very early series Dynavap, an Epic Vape E-Nano log heater, and a Volcano. I’ve used the Epic Vape E-Nano the most, then the Volcano, then the Dynavap. I rarely use anything outside the home, so the plug-in vapes get the most use. If my friends vaped I’m sure the Volcano would get more use.
I also use the E-Nano for heating essential oil for making the room smell nice. If I had to get one and didn’t care about mobility it would be the E-Nano. It’s warm and cozy to hold when my hands are cold. I like the wood look.
The thing about tolerance though is very real. You really need to reset your tolerance before switching to dry herb. I liked getting a lot of high cbd low thc flower so I had something to practice with while resetting. Don’t expect to get absolutely blasted first time out, you’re getting only a few mg of THC per chamber. If you’re used to +100mg from a bowl hit, this will feel a lot less powerful until you reset your tolerance.
The other thing I like about dry herb vaping is using it while it tastes good but stopping before the burnt popcorn stage, and using the vaped flower to make butter. So I’ll get maybe 6 hits on a chamber, then make some pretty strong butter with the same flower.
Between the two this feels like the best of both worlds. I’ll sometimes take a butter pat and then vape a bit to ease it in, saving the vaped flower in a jar to make more butter.
Mighty+
Just spend the money. Easy to clean, portable, very even heating, and accessories are common.
The work required to keep the device functioning kills it for me.
I only had a crafty+ but it was constant maintenance. Even had the 50 pack of caps for it. Thing has been sitting on a shelf for about 3 years after I bought my Dynavap.
Constant cleaning isn’t what I want to do. I just wanna come home from work and rip my bong a few times.
I just learned that you can easily clean the cooling chamber by disassembling it and putting it in a ziplock bag with IPA for overnight.
g pen elite for a not astronomical price but decent looking portable build.
NEVER buy a vape with an integrated battery. It’s idiotic on so many levels, and companies doing it should go under.
Battery not charged? Wait for a few hours instead of putting in a full one
Battery lasts a session after a year? Best hope you can take apart the device and solder in a new one
USBC port died, as is highly likely? Pray to find someone willing to replace it
Do you use one and if so do you have a reco?
What is your budget?
Starry V4 is the best budget portable I’ve used so far, and sees the most use from me even though I have multiple times more expensive convection vapes.
Terpcicle is by far the best budget desktop.
You’ve already got people suggesting dynavaps. Don’t listen to them, it’s an overpriced and overhyped piece of crap. It sort of made sense to buy it almost 10 years ago, but nowadays you have far better and cheaper options like the starry.
Just to give some context. According to the “law” (international standards and stuff like UL in the US) consumers are not allowed to touch unprotected lithium batteries. That’s why you normally don’t see replaceable batteries in these devices, at least from the big western manufacturers. And vapes need quite a bit of power, which battery sockets are not rated to handle. So built-in batteries with welded tabs, soldered (or screwed) to the PCB, are kind of the only choice for the engineers designing these devices.
My vape just has a 18650 battery. You charge with USB-C or just open the lid and exchange the battery for a charged one, like you’d do with a flashlight.
I’m not buying that at all…
First of all, there’s a wide range of DHVs sold with removable 18650s that are made by Western manufacturers
Arizer, tinymight, davinci, potv, etc.
Hell, even Chinese manufacturers like xlux/xmax have a separately registered company in the USA, and all of their products have replaceable batteries.
And vapes need quite a bit of power, which battery sockets are not rated to handle. So built-in batteries with welded tabs, soldered (or screwed) to the PCB, are kind of the only choice for the engineers designing these devices.
Secondly, nic vape box mods draw at least 2-3 times more amps and are still sold with removable batteries.
That’s why I put law in quotes. Sure, manufacturers can choose to not follow standards. Then they will be liable if problems occur due to that.
I’m not saying these standards are right. I’m a DIY guy myself, and I’d like to protect the environment, so I’m personally very much for replacable batteries.
But I’m very sure what I’m saying is true. Here is just something I quickly googled:
Secondary lithium cells are generally not considered user-replaceable.
According to the UL standard for lithium battery safety. Secondary lithium cell means that it can be charged, btw. Source.
That standard covers batteries, not the devices that use them…
Also it doesn’t even cover the 18650s themselves since they usually have <5g of lithium in them.
It’s literally just a loophole for the manufacturers: if the users can’t replace batteries, you don’t need to do safety testing for that scenario
Ah. I forgot why I never comment around here. Thanks for reminding me.
I like what they are saying. It’s cool to know shit. But the way they are saying it makes ya feel like you couldn’t have an opinion.
I had a friend who had a dry herb vape. We smoked out of it all the time. Truth be told, it was really nothing to write home about. It really didn’t have the same texture to the high as, say, a traditional joint. It was more weed for less high. Imho, if you really want bang for your buck, stick to distillates, oils, hash, and edibles.
If you want the health benefits without putting tar in your lungs, it’s just a matter of scheduling a day where you can spend a few hours with a plate of brownies and some good movies. Homemade is just better in every regard.
