I mean, of course. You can only reason with people when they have morals, a conscience. These people don’t (the rest of the world already knows but remember, fascism is imperialism turned inwards so you’re going through your finding out phase now), they decided to be amoral mercenaries, and righteous, innocent folk are and will continue dying and being subjugated by them. This is a very clear cut “if I could snap my fingers and give them all a deadly aneurysm I would, that’s the right thing to do” kind of scenario.
The problem with people online in the communities that we frequent is that they have no ideology, no moral stances, so when the time comes to say the obvious, like “the world would be objectively better, safer and more moral if ICE murderers stop being murderers but since they have no conscience our best bet is that they die”, they freeze. Having said that, I don’t think violence is the answer here, frankly speaking I don’t think there’s an answer. I think the 30% or more of MAGA/propagandised and amoral Western supremacists are large enough as a base, united in their hatred and bloodthirst, to give the oligarchy enough support to continue their plans of turning America into a slave base. The foundations were always there, but now, with the rise of other nations and multipolarity, American capitalists have to better exploit and subjugate the locals to continue their extraction. You might end up fighting the strongest army in the world, or at least the best military equipment your taxes can buy, you’ve seen how other cultures were decimated, what makes you think you’ll be an exception? I think it’s time to leave the country.
I support violence against nobody. That said, I suppose these guys won’t stop harassing people by asking them nicely. It’s just sad to see these people are clearly bullying Walz because he at some point had an influence in the elections. It’s straight out of the fascist handbook: disable your political opponents. Next up is deporting not only those with a different skin colour than Trump’s (meaning white, not orange), but also anyone with a known affiliation to the Democratic Party.
After that they’ll start threatening Republicans who are now in the ‘Leopards ate my face’ stage. Once nobody is around to stand up to him anymore, he’ll start systemically executing people, maybe invade some islands or Larin American countries (even more).
So… you DO suppport violence against those who are literally asking for it?
I xupport that position. We should never condone violence on anyone who wants piece, but those who want violence deserve exactly that.
“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. Seems a pretty simple rule to live by and the world would be a far better place if everyone lived by it. The irony of this is, to me, that this is a statement found in religious scripture, religion being pretty much the main cause of violence.
There was a time when a law was in place which loosely translates to ‘an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth’. It means that whatever crime you committed, if you were found guilty, the same would be applied to you. I wonder how long it will take for Minnesotans to start asking ICE agents for weapon permits, training certificates or even their citizenship papers (ie prove you’re Minnesotan).
A friend of mine used to say, yes, it’s the Christian thing to do to turn the other cheek. But if you get hit again, the scripture doesn’t say anything about it, so feel free to throttle the fucker.
I am not religious myself, but the above always seemed reasonable to me.
I 1000% agree with you but are these unpopular opinions on Lemmy?
I dont know if I agree or disagree with this one. I support violence against ICE because they’re thugs and should be facing consequences but strategically I really don’t think its a good idea. Trump’s unhinged and he still has total control of the levers of state power. He isnt a rational actor and has shown hes willing to act destructively out of pure spite.
It is inevitable that the thugs will eventually poke the wrong sleeping bear. If even one ICE agent gets damaged I think we can expect the full force of the government and military to come down on everyone. When that happens there is probably no point in nonviolent response. Chaos will ensue.
Isn’t violence to protect yourself and freedom in your country also supported by the Second Amendment to the Constitution? I don’t see how this would be too controversial. Also the USA has a long tradition of fighting nazis, central government, and bring guns everywhere?!
I am lucky enough to be an outsider looking in, granted this means that I don’t get the entire context, but I don’t currently support violence against ICE.
For me it seems like ICE is a stick that the current regime keeps poking the US population with, while saying “Come on, do something!” Just so they get the opportunity to invoke the truly draconian plans they have.
As of right now, I think that a general strike would be the right way to do it.
Sadly, there are too few unions with enough money to support that action in the US, and any movement to setup a general strike fund with donations would quickly be shut down by companies like gofundme and paypal, or even VISA or MasterCard, they would argue that they can’t support “dangerous and disruptive actions against the US government”
As it stands now, I think that arranging sit ins outside ICE facilities, preventing/delaying them from leaving their compounds by simply having to remove protestors would be a good idea, the logistical challenge of having to deal with hundreds of people outside their gates everyday would give people time to escape.
Hotel owners where ICE agents are staying could lower the hot water temp when ICE are staying there, denying them a hot shower after a hard days work of oppressing the population, they could blame it on a broken heater needing a special spare part, they could have their IT team lower the speed of the WiFi/network to make the agent’s off hours more annoying, they could take longer to prepare food as “the new staff is less experienced than the old”.
Same goes for anyone having to serve ICE, use the CIA’s simple sabotage guide, it is effective.
The difficulty in funding a general strike due to payment handlers’ sucking up to the government seems like an important point I hadn’t considered. While crypto is not something I normally advocate for, might it offer a solution?
Can you elaborate on Reddit 2.0? I can’t tell if that’s a good or a bad thing lol The last couple years that I’ve been Lemmy felt like the early days of Reddit. In others words, I love Lemmy.
Some people came to Lemmy to escape the overcrowded, hyper-capitalised swamp of Reddit. Others came because they thought the lack of singular oversight would let them act out however they want without consequence. I would presume OP is in the second category.
