The meat of the article: "Overall, people were fairly consistent in how they judged tattoos. Raters tended to agree with one another about what certain tattoo features might suggest about personality. For instance, cheerful and colorful tattoos were linked to impressions of higher agreeableness. Large, traditional-looking tattoos were associated with higher extraversion. Tattoos that appeared low in quality or included death imagery led raters to perceive the wearer as more neurotic or less agreeable.

However, these judgments were largely inaccurate. When the researchers compared how participants were rated with how they described themselves, most of the links between tattoo features and personality fell apart. Except for one pattern: people who had tattoos described by raters as “wacky” were somewhat more likely to score higher on openness to experience in their self-assessments"

What a let down. Comparing to how people view themselves doesn’t tell us much. People are notoriously bad at self reflection.

Yes, but only because everyone I’ve known with a jacked up truck also has a jacked up personality.

I have encountered big american pickups only seven times in my country. They all had some kind of nazi imagery or text attached.

While there is crossover without a doubt, the checked up trucks that are often but, importantly, not always caked in mud are much more likely to be the guys that will help you out without asking for more than asking you what the hell happened here?

It’s the difference between people who buy them just to show off, and those who buy them to have fun with them.

My wife is obsessed with the things. I mean they’re pretty, but I just don’t get it, myself.

Hope you’re both doing OK. Feel like there’s a bit more to this story.

I would say it was more the act of deliberately doing something I didn’t approve of, it wasn’t the only thing like this she did but yeah when her body was more tattoo skin than actual skin she simply was not attractive to me anymore

Spent like 20 grand on tattoos while I saved for our down payment
