This is unironically the most interesting accidental showcase of their psyche I’ve seen 😭 all the comments saying this is a convincing sim argument when half of the points for it are not points

Usually their arguments give me anxiety but this is actually deluded lol

Back in my edgy atheist era I found the ontological argument in apologetics to be compelling, though not terribly convincing. And here I thought they would content themselves reinventing Pascal’s wager. Now let me see if I can find one of those copypasta about the best conceivable plate of nachos.

Ah but not everyone’s taste is the same, therefore the best conceible plate of nachos is made worse by existing, because it can then be confronted to people’s preferences instead of staying in the platonic realm!

A plate of nachos infused with diamondoid nanomachines that stimulate your oral nerves in whatever way you personally prefer.

We probably live in a simulation with the purpose of producing the best anime. This is why we are living in an age with so much anime and with so many people who are interested in anime. The anime maximizing AI is simulating all kinds of scenarios from abiogenesis to a prolific anime industry. Most possible scenarios of life evolving from its first forms would not lead to the development of an anime industry, which is why it would be improbable for us to exist in a world with anime, if not for the fact that the simulated scenarios without anime in them are dropped and not simulated further.

But wait, the best(*) animes came out in the 90s, early 00s. What does that mean? Is the simulation running out of juice?

(*) details of my anime evaluation function are confidential and proprietary

Sorry folks, but our iteration is about to be unplugged unless someone releases a proper sequel to Amagi Brilliant Park real soon. Legal anime streaming services herald the end times.

Yes, if it’s not a fansub which randomly retains some Japanese words while overlaying half the picture with text to explain why it can’t be translated due to finely nuanced meanings, then what are you even watching, the ASI (anime superintelligence) disapproves.

I feel like I’ve learned a lot about world cultures from forum threads and YouTube videos unpacking and debating translation errors in anime and games, and I’m not sure if this says more about my media diet or the world at large.

The space of possible evolved biological minds is far smaller than the space of possible ASI minds

Achkshually, Yudkowskian Orthodoxy says any truly super-intelligent minds will converge on Expected Value Maximization, Instrumental Goals, and Timeless-Decision Theory (as invented by Eliezer), so clearly the ASI mind space is actually quite narrow.

Only rationalists (and possibly Chat-GPT) have the spark of life. The rest of us? Unfortunately we’re computationally efficient p-zombies. Mere cardboard cutouts designed to give flavor text to motivate the main characters.

Remember not to offer player characters any SP Potions, that was last universe when we were in the RPG universe!

Actually, as some of the main opponents of the would-be AGI creators, us sneerers are vital to the simulation’s integrity.

Also, since the simulator will probably cut us all off once they’ve seen the ASI get started, by delaying and slowing down rationalists’ quest to create AGI and ASI, we are prolonging the survival of the human race. Thus we are the most altruistic and morally best humans in the world!

    1. We’re likelier to be in a simulation run by whoever creates many simulations.

would love to ask these dorks “what is the event space of this probability distribution” and “have you heard of a category error”

That’s basically the Rationalist story tbh. Read banks, it went right over their head, and now they see hostile Minds around every corner.

The funniest thing was the “reasons that this thesis might not be true” and the reasons were infinitely simpler and arguably stronger than the points for it that bordered on schizophrenic like: “We don’t live in a simulation” and “we won’t create a paperclip maximizer”
