I genuinely have to ask because I no longer am able to differentiate sarcasm on the internet, but were you being snarky or did you actually want to know if a grown-ass adult managed to figure out using a website all by themselves?

Fully serious. I have taught many people varying levels of computer and web usage and using lemmy at 80 is impressive imo. At that age many people just do not have the physical capabilities (stable hands, vision, etc) to use a computer or even smartphone. My 85 year old grandparents for example can only use a computer together. He is completely mentally fit, but has very shaky hands, while she is very demented, but has perfectly good physical health. So together they are still able to do messaging and video calls :)

Look at Biden and Trump, they have all the money and health support you can imagine but they are visibly falling apart at the same age. I dont think either of those two would be able to use lemmy without issues. Of course the age at which you can still do these kinds of things varies greatly from person to person, but 80 is the average life expectancy for most western countries.

        Nice.

I have no question, just wanted to comment “nice”. Reading the comments I wanted to say I’m surprised, but then I remberered my grandpa is over 90 and he’s the one who taught me to use computers in the first place. DOS commands to launch games and users Win3.11 really, but still.

Nice seeing representation of older people here, thanks for posting!

My grandpappy lived alone, doing a monthly newsletter and genealogy/family tree stuff in some program until he died at 92!
